    I remember one particular night when about 10 years old 1957ish, coming back from Harborne, to Weoley Castle, we had such bad fog. From the bottom of War Lane, to the Stonehouse Pub, the conductor walked took hours, we all had to get out and walk from there pitch black with fog, happy days !!

    Does any on on this thread, remember the very bad Birmingham fogs of the 50's, when the conductor would have to walk in front of the bus ,with a great flaming torch, held aloft, and we would progress at walking pace for some miles!!

    I remember an old man telling me once, a long time ago, that the bar on street lamps, just under the lamp case, were there for ladder rests, harking back to oil, and gas lamps, lighting and maintenance!!

    WOW!! it certainly has changed!! I left there aged 15 to join up, used to come and go all times of the day and night, to me.. The old victorian station will always be precious to me, , I have my memories, (well at the moment anyway), I am glad of that.

    I remember visiting Tipton, in the 50's, and standing with my dad near the canal bridge, watching the barges and butties, coming by, with the ladies in headscarves, steering them and the men standing on the tarpaulin sheets on the butties with poles.     A great piece of memorabilia from our past Donbogen!! I remember in 1963, that the army, was put on standby for snow clearance, we did't, but I wonder if anyone else did??
