My wife and I used the "British Restaurant", in Cambridge, from 1970 to about 77, when it closed, I was told that it started in WW2, and continued through post war rationing, and was so popular that it continued as said, through to the 70's. You could get, well cooked, great old British meals...

I remember the chippy, in Gooch Street, Balsall Heath, from memory, may be wrong!! but it was quite small, with lots of shiny metal...
