    Looking at this photo reminds me, what we owed to those volunteers of all ages, and how many of those proud faces came back home again, to the country they had fought so hard for, not so many I believe!!!

    I was at the Birmetal's, when a helicopter landed but cannot remember the date, I have said befor that my dad ran the social club and we went to all the sports days and Christmas's and bonfire nights in the 50's, they also had a pantomime when Mr pastry came one year, it was a wonderful period...

    The parks were beautiful in Birmingham, well tended and patrolled, we kids knew not to get up to to much mischievousness or we would be in trouble its a shame, these days of no sense of duty or civil pride, the parks were so much safer then !!

    So true Smudger mate, The village Vicar, always about cycling in his patched cassock, tending to people who needed him, the village bobby always there if there was a problem, and the Dr, any time day or night ,always there, in those days most things worked well, not today unfortunately!!!
