    Gosta Green Through Duddeston

Went and had another look in the churchyard couple of days ago, of the older graves (mid 19th centery)only a few have legible headstones. The wall doesnt look as old as the church to me though, if the size of the churchyard wasnt reduced when the dualcarriagway was built, I wonder if perhaps...

    Bier Keller

Re: BEER CELLAR ( KELLAR ) They seemed to be in fashion for a while. Didnt one room in the Drakes Drum become one for a while ? Funny thing is, bars I can remember from Germany in the 70s were nothing like it, more like UK social clubs. I wsas quite dissapointed. Prhaps we were the wrong...

    Bier Keller

Re: BEER CELLAR ( KELLAR ) Early 70s there was one under Bogarts, Sold Dortmunder Union beer, strong lager with a texture like half frozen jubbly, a lot colder ( and stronger) than beer in pubs at the time. Had a band with Gill Gordon in it, Accordin and Banjos, that wore lederhosen and...

    Gosta Green Through Duddeston

No, my mistake really. I'm dont remember the area prior to the 70s. and made the assumption based on how close the road is I suppose. Heres a - not very good - map from the 1880s. Does look like the churchyard covered the whole area where there were houses and a Vicarage by 1913. but its not...

    Gosta Green Through Duddeston

Thanks, Been looking for an old 19th century map on line, but had no luck. The few graves that I did find were round the back, but from memory, and it was a long time ago when I researched it, there were far too many graves for the size of the churchyard as it is now.

Nice pic with St Mathews in the distance. May be slightly off topic, and I dont want to hijack someone elses thread, but does anyone happen to know where the remains from the Graveyard were removed to, when, and whether the headstones were moved as well. My G G Grandfather was buried there in...

New Technology! - Well it was then!

I used to haunt the radio shops in Hurst St when i was a kid, I remember the shop opposite Mathews well, always had loads of interesting junk, although Mathews and Norman H Fields were a bit more organised. The old chap in there was always helpful and ready to 'do a deal' reminded me of Donald...

    winson green prison

The bit about the shed ame from a maintenance guy, could have been winding us up I suppose, bearing in mind he said working order, not ready to use. I s'pose that need only mean a hook and a trap door really. But this was way before the 2000/01 refurbishment programme got under way. Pison...

    winson green prison

In the mid 90s I prepared a quote for some work at Winson Green which involved quite a lot of cabling. We were not allowed to include any underground ducting as there are a lot of remains buried within the walls since 1845 when the prison opened, and there were no accurate records of where a lot...

    Broad Street

Somewhere at the top end - 5 ways end - of Broad St, I'm sure I remember looking in the window of a Taxidermists when I was little. There was all sorts of animals, Polar Bears, Tigers etc. Anybody on her got a clue what or where it might have been ?

    St Andrews Church Bordesley Green

Wonder if this was the vicar at your grandads wedding. And wonder if these are the 'volounteer steeplejacks' Bt the way, it Bordesley, not Bordesley Green. The steeple was removed around 1901 I believe, certainly wasnt there when I was growing up.
