    Joe Brown

Showin my age now... Joe Brown was my first Guitar hero. Saw him on TV not long ago in a George Harrison tribute concert. All those big name guitarists on the bill, and then he steals the show playing I'll see you in my dreams on a Yukelelle.

You'll be excommunicted in Tamworth if that gets out..... Do they still hate us there, like they did a few years ago ?

    Bogarts

Bier Kellar was downstairs, sold Dortmunder Union Bier, still got an ashtray somewhere...lol Upstairs was mostly under age - looking pseudo hippies with Led Zeppelin wrotten in Biro on the backs of their denim jackets. Not sure, but I think it was closed down on account of fire safety issues...

    On This Day 1940

Must have been orrible. Saw a joke sticker on the back of a Mercedes recently. 'Merc owner-paying the pensions of Goerings Luftwaffe pilots' Food for thought, with With BMWs and Merc's now outselling pretty much everything else.

    Public Execution

I think theres a plaque somewhere, Gt Charles St possibly, which marks the spot of the last public execution in Brum. Think the victims name was Mansell.

    Old tv programmes

Dunno about that, but I do remember a fishing program with Noel Gordon and I think Terry Thomas, in which he was teaching her how to fish. Was on late on a weeknight around 1965

    Birmingham in 1950s

The subject of Moquette could start another thread! I see London Transport have designed a Moquette Dress range for the (mostly) female fashionable anorak Probably nice and warm, if she dont mind smelling like an old bus !

    Birmingham in 1950s

    Birmingham in 1950s

Lot of nostalgia for 50s cars, but lets be honest. Most were a chore to drive compared with modern cars. Or is it just what we have got used to ? I wonder if reps covered the sort of mileage they do today, I often do 2 or 3 hundred miles a day, wouldnt fancy it in a Consul with a 3 speed box...

    Origins of the Brummie accent

Not sure about Brum accent, I reckon in older people you can still often tell those who grew up in Aston from, say, Small Heath. Slightly off topic, but I reckon theres an Italian influence in a Dudley accent, but nobody else seems to agree.

    The Peace Centre

Peace Centre, forgot about that place. Didnt the premises become Reddingtons, opposite Moor St Station ?

    Birmingham in 1950s

More just what TV producers and other BBC middle class types remember from their own experience. Wasnt till the late 60s that working class people were even recognised was it ? Who else grew up reading about William, or the Famous 5 and watching TV programs where everybodys dad worked in an...

    Bordesley Green

Cant argue with that, used to find all sorts of good stuff over there, hard to explain that the local tip was our park/play area. But it was really wasnt it.

    St Gabriel's Italian Church Deritend

I realise its only anecdotal, but theres a section about Father Lopez, and that church in a book I recently read '96 years a Brummie' Sorry, cant remember who wrote it, but I'm sure somebody on this forum will know. iirc, it was used by nuns as a home for 'working young people' or something...
