    Midland Red Early Days

The trams purchased from Taunton in 1905 (Taunton cars No.1-6), were only 4 years old and numbered L&W 7-12. They only became available because of the poor state of the track in Taunton due to rushed installation and were sold off during track repairs after which single deckers were used. They...

    Birmingham on Sea

Sorry John, your attachment won't open for me! Of interest to you is in August, Yardley Wood Garage Social are running the first day trip to W-S-M since the 1970's and it's down to see the new Grand Pier. Wonder how many more folks will rediscover Birmingham-on-Sea because of the new pier? Mike

Staying with the L&W Tramways as it is part of the early Midland Red days, here is a poor shot of car No.1 coming down Leamington Parade from Warwick date unknown but early days from the dress styles.

Brummie Holidays & Days out on Old Postcard .....

....and now for the poor mans sea cruise! A holiday in Swanage was not complete without a 10 minute sea cruise by taking your car or catching the Hants and Dorset bus to Poole via the Sandbanks Ferry crossing the mouth of Poole Harbour. In summer long queues of cars built up waiting to board the...

What may have been the last undertaking to employ WWI Motormaids is Portsmouth Corporation who trained up six from conductress as late as May 1918, (the last year of WW I). For the record, the Rothesay, Greenock & Port Glasgow Tramways claimed to have had the first Motormaids (but I don't have...

Brummie Holidays & Days out on Old Postcard .....

Seen here in the 1960's, it's an easy day out from Brum to Bourton on the Water. All the vehicles seen in this view were made in England as well!

At the risk of straying off thread again, Lincoln also had WW I Motormaids as shown here with car No.2 and all female crew posing. Note the Tommy enjoying a fag on the top deck.

Last Day of the Metrobus in Birmingham

I understand that on July 24th AG's last Metrobuses will operate a public journey on each of the garage group of routes with one spending the day on the No.1 service from which it will have been the final Metro in normal service upon return to garage. When the time of the last journey has been...

I think I like best the term "Motormaid" used a lot by their male colleagues for the WW I tram driving girls in my hometown of Bath. Mike

I think you have a Lowestoft tram there in your post #538 Thylacine. ( Word 'LOWESTOFT' is just visible in the advert above the motorlady). Below is sister car No.5 of same type.

    See Birmingham by Post Card

A tram makes it's way from Edmund Street in to Congreve Street in this c.1920's view of Victoria Square. Possibly due to the camera angle, on her statue, Queen Victoria appears to be wearing trousers to which she would no doubt say "We are not amused"

    Marston Green & Tile Cross

Pics fine now thank you Maggie. I was the driver in the bus at Marston Green in my previous posting. Have had a dabble with your postcard view but our skilled photo restorers here on the Forum will make a better job of it if you ask them.

Can't go back as far as 1926 but I do remember a series of Saturday strikes at Digbeth in the early 1960's when the company offered a wage increase of £1 a week in reply to a union demand of 30 shillings (£1/10/- or £1-50p in todays funny money). The union advised us to strike but weekly wages...

Outer Circle Bus Tour (on the day)

Looks to me like a duplicate trip round the 11 wouldn't go amiss before the summer is over following the good time had by all on this one, perhaps in the opposite direction.
