I'll say it again hear, hear or is it here, here and thanks for a fascinating thread, particularly because of the now and then comparisons that are available. Bob

    Honey Lane

I have just looked up a relative on the 1851 census and the entry shows them living in the parish of Kings Norton, the village of Sparkbrook in what looks like Honey Lane. Did such a lane exist or have I translated the name incorrectly? Interestingly the father died four years later and they...

What date was 901 AOP registered, perhaps that could date the picture better, I do not know when Birmingham turned to reverse numbers and letters. Bob

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Chester Road had cycle tracks both sides from The Tyburn to Orphanage Road. Used them many a time to Castle Bromwich Station (Incidentally I see your Mayor has talked about reopening it). It was quite a good spot for train spotting mainly freights. Bob

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

The only tram track (and correct me if I am wrong) on Chester Road between Chester Road Station and Castle Bromwich was where the 2 crossed it at the Yenton on Sutton/Birmingham Road. The tram terminus at Tyburn was before Chester Road. Can someone put a map out showing this spot please? Bob

    Midlands Electricity Board MEB

A very US of A bible belt company, when the Americans visited South Western Electicity Board premises and depots after the take over, all girlie calendars had to be removed as they were considered to be unnecessary, even the clothed young ladies. Bob

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Noticed them both, JCB quite elderly actually, yet when you look at it and compare it with todays models very little has changed about the design, now of course 4 in 1 front bucket and levers compatible with a 360 slew. Running a plant training company one of the major whinges by 180 operators...

    Ghost signs of Birmingham

Was that on the right hand side going down Soho Hill? If so for 1/9d (o.9p) you got a seat circa 1960 to 1961 often to see 2 A movies, instead of the usual A and B starter. One Friday night, we went in at 1830 to see A Town like Alice and The Glenn Miller Story, no break between the two...
