    Cemetery Plans/diagram

Hi Cresser, I think you might be looking at the wrong cemetery as Plymouth Road Cemetery in Southcrest was still open at that time. It is now closed for new internments. I can't find the exact date it closed but found reference to someone buying a plot in 1944. Regards, Anne

    Items that have faded away

Barley wine aka Gold Label, very much alive but not too popular nowadays. I worked for Bass Brewers previously M&B on Warwick Rd Olton until they were bought out by Coors who decided to make us all redundant. Not sure about Worthington E but can still remember the advertising... Worthington E's...

    Easter Eggs

Do you have any memories of receiving your Easter Egg when you were a child? I was about 5 years old, woke uo to find Easter Bunny had been, unwrapped my egg from it's foil paper and went back to sleep. Woke up, toddled down the corridor to my Mom & Dad's bedroom. It was very dark so I felt...

    Christmas’s past

Let's face it, there were no fridges so fresh milk was important. My Mom went shopping every day to get fresh food. How times have changed! Our local Royal Mail have combined 2 deliveries in to one so we get our only delivery about 2 o'clock. I remember we used to get our 2nd delivery before...

    Shoes

Hi, I had a pair of plastic sandals, hated them. We went on a day trip to the seaside and I buried them in the sand. Was I popular!! Everyone dug around for ages then my Dad went off to the shops and bought me a pair of pumps to go home in. I never lived that one down. I have wide feet and was...

    Items that have faded away

A few years back I bought my grandchildren a post office set and they loved it. One summer we made all the Punch & Judy puppet characters on my old sewing machine and my husband made a theatre they could stand inside. We wrote a play and they performed it for their parents. What wonderful...

    Christmas’s past

Hi Astonian, Think you are getting me mixed up with someoneelse but my Dad was from Lord Street Aston so we could be related. My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, had two thirds of his lung removed at Heartlands, the surgeon was fantastic and now Ray has started digging his garden and...

    2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment

Hi Tony, Thank you so much. I will have a look on Ancestry. I had no idea he was a POW. Such a shame he didn't live long when he came back. He didn't take up their offers of work as I believe he became a county court bailiff known to everyone as 'Tommy fetch 'em back'. Many thanks, once again. Anne

    2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment

Hi Tony, Thank you very much for that info. My nephew has researched our family tree so I was trusting it to be correct as he studied history at uni. I'm afraid I don't have Thomas Farleys medals, haven't got a clue where they are. Any info much appreciated. Regards, Anne

    Vinegar Factories

Hello MWS, Possibly, but I don't know her name and when I googled death by drinking vinegar it brought up a recent case where a womand drank industrial strength vinegar to abort her baby and she died. I couldn't find anything from the early 20th century. I suppose this story confirms it is...

    2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment

Hello, Can anyone help me please? My G Grandfather Thomas Farley from Birmingham served in the Worcestershire Regiment cavalry No 200998. He survived the war but died in 1919 in the flu epidemic. Is there any way to find out any more about him please? Many thanks for any information. Anne

    Vinegar Factories

Hello MWS, My Grandad was born in 1889 and married my Gran during the first world war so I guess his first girlfriend would have been working at whichever vinegar factory at about that time. Pity I can't find out her name. I wonder if her cause of death was recorded as drinking vinegar. She must...

Smith James born 24 july 1908

Re: James Smith born 24 july 1908 Tardebigge is between Redditch and Bromsgrove, quite a rural location near to Hewell Grange Prison for young offenders. We recently bought some gloucestershire old spot pigs from there. Lovely pork!!!! Anne

    Vinegar Factories

Thank you Pollypops, was a terrible time but thankfully all behind us now. I didn't know that fact Postie, could be why she liked it so much. Don't know her name or when she died, my Grandad wasn't very approachable and don't really know why it was common knowledge in the family but they did...

    Vinegar Factories

Thank you horsencart, At least that confirms it is a possibility. It's a story I have often mulled over and wondered if it was true. I have looked on the internet and it seems it could be true but she must have drunk an awful lot. Apparently some people think it is a contraceptive!!! Amazing...
