    Snow Hill (the Road)

Lyn another great picture. As I remember from the 1950's Constitution Hill ran from Snow Hill Station on to Gt Hampton Street up to Hockley Hill. The sight of the Rover car reminded me of my very first job when I accompanied my boss in his car to deliver leather goods the The Midland...

    Schooltimes

Hello Ron, I attended Station Road Secondary Modern School in Harborne, but it was a few years after you were there. I remember the teachers and Headmaster that you mention. If you enter the name of the school in full in the white box at the top of the page above 'Advanced Search' you will be...

    The silent killer

Terry, thank you for the advice and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I have a question: Are men over a certain age 'invited' for the scan automatically? Perhaps someone would enlighten me?

    Various street pics

The pictures are very interesting; thanks for sharing them with us Lyn. I noticed the dustman in Alexandra Road, Balsall Heath carrying his metal bath on his head - hard work in those days.

    Items that have faded away

My mother wore a corset which was pink and had whalebone sections incorporated into the corset. Suspenders completed the garment. Mom bought her corsets probably from a shop on the Flat and after retirements used to get her corsets from a little 'drapers' in Harborne. Anthea

    Memories of Malta

Eric, two more super pieces of artwork. There is a lovely contrast between the two pictures and I admire your skill with perspective in the first picture. The red telephone box makes the picture even more interesting. Thank you for sharing your work. Anthea.

Newey Goodman Ltd Robin Hood Lane

Sally, I didn't know your Aunt at all. I shared a small office with the Cost Clerk. The Director I worked for was in charge of the Works Department, so we were separate from other offices at the front of the building. I seem to recall (it's been a very long time ago ie 1962), that the...

Newey Goodman Ltd Robin Hood Lane

Hello Sally B, This company made hairgrips which were handy when making a pincurl in the hair. The top end of the grip turned up so that it was easy to slide into the pincurl (didn't need to open the grip with one's teeth!). They also made nappy safety pins which had a piece of metal which...

    Harborne

Metchley Grange, a mansion near Malins Road was owned by Sir Henry Wiggin, a philanthropist, last squire of Harborne and Lord Mayor of Birmingham etc. Metchley Abbey was originally a farmhouse but the abbey was built later in the Gothic style and was the home of Edward Freeman, Victorian...

    Old Church Edgbaston (st Bartholomew)

ellbrown, Very nice photos of St Bartholomews Church where my ancesters were married in the 18th and 19th centuries. I saw some pictures of the interior of the church which may have been Flickr, but it was a long time ago; it might be worth having another look though.

    Items that have faded away

I recently bought Amami 'Caring Setting Lotion with shine'. My hairdresser recommended I use it for my very fine hair. It has a lovely delicate perfume and it is also a pale blue colour. I have an old Amami glass bottle which my husband found in the garden when he was digging and I keep it...

    Zeppelin Raid -Tipton

Colin, thanks for posting that report. My mother told me about the Zeppelin raid on Tipton as she was there when the bombs dropped. She was about 10 years old at the time and the experience shattered her nerves for years afterwards.

    Fleur-de-Lys pies

Post#19 Graham your picture makes me feel hungry and also brings back memories of my husband driving my Mom and Dad and our two children from Hall Green to Lowsonford so that we each could enjoy a pie in the grounds of the Pub. I think Fleur-de-Lys pies were also sold in some fish and chip...

Station Road Secondary Modern School, Harborne.

Hello bevflower, Your father was at Station Road School at the same time as myself, but I don't recall his name. You say that the school has a website. I have looked for it on Google but can only find comments about the school on Friends Reunited - is this the website you mean? There is a...
