    Got any lunch mate?

Hello Amanda, My husband lived in Argyle Terrace off Cuckoo Road and Long Acre in Aston. The Terrace was next to Austin's Coal Yard and next to Bob's Cafe. It was the men from Booth's factory who provided the 'lunch'. Is this the area your Dad was familiar with? Regards, Anthea.

    Got any lunch mate?

Dave Ed, Thanks for that, brought us up-to-date regarding Bob's Cafe, but perhaps the kids had gone and maybe times were better when you worked around there in the 60's./70's. Anthea.

    Got any lunch mate?

Does anyone remember Bob's Cafe, corner of Argyle Street, Aston, opposite Booth's factory gates in the 1930's/40's where the poor kids would wait for the men coming out of the factory and would then ask the men "Got any lunch mate?". The kids would take the sandwiches home to be shared out. My...

SHERA, Does your disc cover marriages 1808 which took place at Edgbaston Church, St Bartholomews? If it does, would you mind having a look for Joseph Parry and Phoebe Handle as I am keen to know who the witnesses were. Thanks very much. Regards Anthea:) P.S. How far does your disc go back?

    In memory of MoMo

Jennyanne, So sorry your pet died today. I too had a budgie which my Dad had given me for my 16th birthday. I had Riki for four years and he used to do tricks which amused us greatly. He too had a tumour and my Mother sat up all night holding him until he died. I cried for about a week:cry...

    Daily Mail Clothes

My husband was an orphan at six years of age and then raised by his grandmother. He qualified for the free boots which were collected from Digbeth Police Station, and a free jumper and a pair of short trousers from the B'ham Mail. No underwear was supplied and none provided by his gran so he...

    Small Heath Park (Victoria Park)

I remember taking the children to Small Heath Park on Bonfire Night in the 1970's. A huge bonfire, hot dogs, toffee apples and fireworks too. It was freezing cold, but we all enjoyed that particular time in the park. Anthea.

    One for the ladies.

When I was pregrant I craved apples like Jean, but they had to be sour and green, so my husband used to go scrumping over next door's garden at night where there were 4 or 5 trees. I hated the smell of tea and perfume. The ladies at work left off wearing perfume for my sake or it might have...

Wendy, How nice of the family to acknowledge your information. I am not sure whether the book is still in print, I hope so. I know other so called 'experts' come up with explanations about Tolkien, but Humphrey Carpenter, as I mentioned previously, did have access to Tolkien's papers and his...

    Beech Tree Inn - Quinton

Hi Pub Historian (do you have a name?) Yes, I remember the Beech Trees Pub at the top of Wolverhampton Road South and the Warley Odeon picture house. I used to go to the 'pictures' with my Mom and Dad late 1940's and 1950's, so we passed by the pub. I didn't go inside the pub - too young...
