Otherhalf, I can't remember two golf courses (childhood memories dimming a bit). The Municipal Golf Course I used to cross is the Welsh House Farm location. Northfield Road had hedgerows which my parents and I used to cross on to a grassed area which led to a row of shops. Walking down into...

I was a young girl in the 1940's and remember Tom Knocker's Wood very well. The wind used to howel through the trees and scare me to death as my parents and I used to walk over the golf course in the pitch black after visiting my gran. Thanks for posting those great pictures. Anthea.

Thanks again OldOldOld . I look forward to seeing your picture of Tom Knocker's wood which has been mentioned before on this site. Legand has it that Tom Knocker hanged himself from a tree there. The wood is next to a golf course which my parents and I used to walk across to get to my aunt's...

Oldoldold, Thanks for posting that 1956 picture of West Boulevard. I was born near there in 1937 so I remember it all as it was then. Next to the trees at the top of the Boulevard and to the right is a farm which, I believe was known as Powells Farm. Down from the farm to the right the area...

    Ye Old House at Home

Eric, a lovely painting of The Old House at Home Public House. I understand at one time it was a farm and the present Old House at Home is further along Lordswood Road. I used to pass the Pub every day on my way to work. Anthea.

Dave, Glad to be of help. There was a new Council estate built around the farm early 1930's, although I think there were some council houses in West Boulevard built slightly earlier. Welsh House Farm was at the bottom of Blandford Road where I was born and later development houses and flats came...

Murder of Maureen Hill in Billesley

Bilsat, I would think that this event would have been reported in the 1959 newspapers and there may be pictures too in the archives. Anthea.

    Birmingham in 1950s

Arkrite, there was a coach firm called 'Gliderways' which was based in Bearwood and their coaches had a 'fin' too. The coaches were grey and red and looked very smart. Anthea.

Stitcher, you may have delivered my milk then as I used to live down Robin Hood Lane years ago? I remember the milkman sold bread, orange juice, potatoes and perhaps eggs, I can't remember now. Every Christmas there would be a Dairy Diary or a Cookbook for sale. I passed the Dairy on the Hall...

    Sarehole Mill

Very nice pictures of the Mill, ell brown. Do you know whether there are still 'artefacts' inside? I remember several items were on display such as a working Smock and various tools which may have been used by the Miller. I have a photo taken of me with friends outside by the grinding wheel by...

School in Earls Court Road, Harborne.

Does anyone have information/history of a school in Earls Court Road? In the 1930's my brother attended a school which I think was based in a chapel and was used on a temporary basis while a new school was being built ie Woodhouse Road Junior and Infant School, to accommodate children from the...

    Pre-Raphaelite??

I agree, she does have a Pre-Raphaelite model look about her, but the clothes, I would hazard a guess and say the above the ankle dress, scooped neckline and elbow length sleeves must date from about 1915 onwards. On the other hand, she may have been posing for an artist though which makes a...

Thanks for that DavidGrain, I am pleased that the little park in Tennal Lane is still there and being used in such a good way. If you look on Aiden's latest post #177 and click on the Google Maps you can see the words Masonic Hall just under the roof as you described. Also, on this particular...
