    High Speed Train 2

When you say 'Driving itself', what do you mean exactly. Did it have some kind of lane guidance, intrigued?

Technology is only as good as the person operating it. Remember the old computer adage; 'Rubbish in, rubbish out'. p.s what car were you in that was 'driving itself'?

I have owned a totally electric vehicle for two years now. I was a little apprehensive to depart from the internal combustion engine. Would I go back to petrol or diesel? No.

Where to find out how a street got its name?

I think Carl Chinn has made a list of the popular ones. Which street are you researching.

    old car snaps

The Variomatic also permitted increased engine braking by operating a switch on the dashboard which reversed the action of the vacuum on the pulley's diaphragm, seeking a lower ratio with increased manifold vacuum.

    1960s cars

I remember working on those 'DAF 55' cars. The transmission was a rubber belt running between two sets of conical drums that moved in and out by suction. The DAF Variomatic comes to mind. Awful things.

    Not making any more

As part of my studies many years ago I had to look at 'management styles' in different industries. I read a book by chap called 'Handy', he was a management guru. To cut a long story short, he quoted when post second world war a delegation of top management from Chrysler, Ford, general motors...

    Not making any more

What an interesting site. It seems that Holbrooks had adopted the american model of selling i.e steck'em high and sell 'em cheap, this system works until you have a drop in sales and you no longer have working capital. Great site, thanks for introducing me to it.

    Childhood Memories Of Trains

My fondest memories of railways goes back to the late fifties. Me and my pal, Tommy Major would sit on the wall at the entrance to Hockley goods yard at the junction of All Saints street and All Saints road. Here we would be on the main line between Snow Hill and Wolverhampton opposite the huge...

West Midlands Metro trams going blue 2019

Another question. Who or how are the points changed on the system? e.g when a tram is on the 'out' track on Broad st, the track terminates at the library, after leaving the terminus, how is the track switched so the return journey can be made on the 'In' track to Grand Central. Is this something...

West Midlands Metro trams going blue 2019

A question re the new battery trams. When a tram leaves or rejoins the overhead wire system to run on batteries, does the driver of the tram have to raise and lower the pantograph manually or does it happen automatically?

Good picture. To the left of the tram as we look at it was a 'Spencer Abbott' fuel depot. Spencer Abbott of Erdington once had a canal boat building business on Tyburn Road, they later moved to the 'Esso' site in Wood lane Erdington.

    Monument Road Baths, Ladywood.

From 1960 to 1963 I used to walk to Monument road baths from Barford road senior school. I learnt to swim there. I remember the long walk back to Barford road via Icknield Port road. I am reminded of my old school when I ride through Barford on my way to Stratford (most Tuesdays) and Louisa...
