    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

I had an Escort van like the one in the pic. Mine was about as rusty as the Cambridge in a previous pic. One day I was driving down the Bordeley Green road when due to metal fatigue, the bonnet opened up, the wind caught it, wrenched it of its hinges and deposited it under the wheels of a...

I think 'Tyburn garage' and 'Moss garage's' were the same company. The original Moss garage was owned by the Moss Gear company as their transport repair shop. I too was an auto-electrician and remember Gaedor very well.

COM 1C was originally on an Austin 1800 that was sold by Moss garages. Moss garages were on the junction of Chester and Tyburn roads. I think the sale of the car/number plate was well documented in the Birmingham Mail of the time.

I like the Jaguar Mk 10. They were as big as a dance hall in the back. The Volkswagen 'Type 3' is a car I've not seen for along time. Some of those had a heater that worked independently of the car itself. Petrol was injected into a chamber under the car, ignited and then the heat was blown...

I had an Austin Westminster as well as it's equivalent, the Wolseley 6/110. A friend had the 'VandenPlas.' We all aspired to but never did to owning the 4litre 'R'. We thought we were the bees knees lording it about in our old rust buckets.

    Bus Garages

The ownership of buses has changed over the years. E.g Birmingham city used to own and maintain their own fleet of buses and so required large garages to do so. Since privatisation, fleet operators prefer to hire buses for a fixed term. Included with the hire charge comes maintenance. One of...

    Covid vaccination process

Did you remain in your car all the time? What was the process. Drive up, stick arm out of window, jabbed and on your way?
