Thomas had other children with Eliza Morton below. Sabina and Thomas also had John May/mays 1865 I think if Robert is 1863. John was the son where there was an inquest into his death. Don’t think Thomas and Eliza Morton married but children from 1875. So 8 yrs gap from Matilda. Ann kilmartin...

Also I looked up the age of what was considered a minor re marriage around sabina's time. A minor was under 21 but..... The age of marriage under civil law was 14 for boys and 12 for girls (the age of puberty); however this was inconsistent with criminal law which set the age of consent at 16...

I think Ann had that as a maiden name, sister perhaps of Eliza Besenwaite who married James Preston Mayes who I think is James Mayes, thomas's brother as their mum was Margaret Preston. Ann also married William Long. This is the marriage entry for Eliza who I think may be Ann's sister...

Yes I would say with Killmartin definitely. I havent looked for Matilda's godparents in too much depth yet. William Long is listed as a witness to Sabina and Thomas's marriage. I was also wondering if the godparent on Eliza's record is the latin name of Edward? Very hard to read it.

Hi Lyn, hoping you may still be around on here. We spoke some time ago about the possibility of you visiting Birmingham Archives for me re Matilda Mayes/Masey and the Industrial School records they held for her. Would this still be a possibility?

    Gertrude Cummings/Brayne/Brain

Yes, but thank you. Thats why I was getting so confused because her date of birth on the 1939 census was two years earlier to her birth reg.

    Gertrude Cummings/Brayne/Brain

I agree with the thing about dates of birth etc. I have found a number of discrepancies in the records, with individuals ages ranging by quite a number of years

I agree far more info came up for James and Hannah but going on the records eg Her dad being John on her marriage bans and having a brother John who is then found in 1901 with Dad John, I think perhaps those who have gone down the James Cumming route have perhaps got their trees wrong. I made...
