    Sargant Isaac 1911 census -

Hi Claire, The 1911 image on Find My Past shows the Infirmity Column at the end which isn't visible on the Ancestry one. Isaac is recorded as an Imbecile and linking that with the "at Rubery" got me thinking that maybe he was a patient at Rubery Hill. I have found Rubery Hill, which wasn't easy...

    Carter Alfred Victor

Hi Lynac, I thought I'd found something this morning but on checking when I got in from work, it doesnt look right. :( I'd had a look at a tree on Ancestry which had Alfred Victor Carter married to Lily Harding. Attached to the tree was a census image from 1911 which had what looked like an Alec...

    Carter Alfred Victor

I am really stumped then Lynac, I have spent the last few hours searching but to no avail :( I guess after seeing some of the programmes on TV about family trees and searching for lost rellies, it is always a possibility that Alfred did have 2 sons called Robert, but thats a bit of a long...

    Coventry Road Small Heath

I borrowed this photo from Phil's Old Street's thread, (hope he won't mind) I don't know when it was taken but can anyone make out the name of the shop with the white sign that is slightly higher than the others?? in the low block of shops.. If it was A, Maturi's & Sons then I believe that was...

    Coventry Road Small Heath

I looked too but I thought it would have been on the opposite corner to CBS in the block where the pastry shop is, because in the Kelly's for 1940 the only properties mentioned on the CBS side in between Jenkins Street and Whitmore Road are Small Heath Baptist Church and then Mills, Leslie...

    Carter Alfred Victor

Hi Lynac, there is a death recorded on Ancestry for an Alfred Victor Carter born 16 Jan 1898, died Jan-Feb-Mar quarter aged 84, Birmingham. Vol 32 Page 0461. The birth date fits with your Grandad's age at marriage, so it may be worth getting the death cert for informant and last address information.

F H Manley & Sons, Photographer Coventry Road

Hi Mikejee, Thanks for taking the time to check for me and for the explanation, both of which are most appreciated. I am glad I realised and rechecked !! it's a very useful fact to keep in mind for future searches....it has also prompted me to go back and check one of my Coventry Road...

F H Manley & Sons, Photographer Coventry Road

Hi Paul, The location for 137, Coventry Road, Hay Mills had me confused because to my way of thinking the lower numbers on the Coventry Road would have started at the town end of the road and I found in the Kelly's for 1915 that 137 sat between what was Bordesley Park Road and Mount...

F H Manley & Sons, Photographer Coventry Road

Hi Shortie, The 1911 census for 137 Coventry Road lists George and Clara Manley with daughter Beatrice, son Ernest, daughters May and Maria and 2 visitors by the name of Bayley. Son ERNEST's occupation is recorded as "Photograping" (thats how its spelt) I have not found a reason for the F.H bit...

:) Thanks Mike :) It took me ages to try and get the roads to match up !! Trying to adjust the size on google earth to fit the old map is a nightmare !!..I remembered after that you had said to do several shots with different levels of opaqueness (is that a word ?) and that I should have left...

    Swanshurst School Site

Hi again, in the Kelly's for 1940, Claverdon Street has at number 36, Sterndale, Mrs Annie, Wardobe dealer and at 37 Walmsley, Alfred, shopkeeper, but there is no number 35. I have found Claverdon Street on a 1951 map, but all the street names on maps after that are too small for me to read, so...
