Camp Hill Past & Present pt 1/2

What a beautiful and sympathetically produced video Joseline! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Like Dave89, I went to the school at the top of Camp Hill which had been converted to Waverley Grammar Lower School, by the time that I attended (1959-61), so many of the old photos brought back...

    Forward Radiators - Cherrywood Road

I remember visiting Forward Radiators in the 1970's when they were manufacturing and painting fuel tanks for the then British Leyland Group. John Sandever was my contact there. Does anyone know when the factory closed down? Did the site become Metal Treatments or was that a different site?

I have a copy of my great grandfather's RFC/RAF service records, but I don't understand what the abbreviations mean. I'm keen to find out where he served and what he did in WW1. Can anyone help please?

What year did King Edwards change to Waverley Grammar Lower school? I started there in 1959 and it appeared well established by then.

If you could live anywhere in Birmingham, where would it be?

I remember the youth club at Oldknow Road school on Friday nights in the mid 60's. I can recall a few of the girls .... Pat Nixon, Pamela Bruce, Christine Potter and Cathy Phillips. Small Heath was a better place to live in those days. I played for Small Heath park football team against other...

    Is This Your Motor?

The Austin factory at Bargoed employed many disabled people (often suffering from pneumoconiosis - a lung disease from the mines). They made children's cars. http://www.austinmemories.com/styled-25/index.html

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

There certainly were gas lamps in the 50's and even early 60's in Small Heath. I can remember the gas lighter man coming around every evening with his lighter pole. .Did you know Alan Fair who lived at the end of Cooksey Road in the 60's? I believe that he became a lecturer in American Studies...

Midland Motor Omnibus Co Midland Red

Does anyone have any information on The Birmingham Bus company, based in Mary Street in 1900? My grandfather's attestation papers when he joined the Royal Warks. regiment in 1900 stated that he worked for a Mr Pritchard at that company. This appears to be over a decade before the Midland Omnibus...

Frighted Horse Pub - Soho Road Handsworth

I also attended day release (metallurgy) at Handsworth TC in the mid 1960's. I think that the pub almost opposite was the "Gun Barrels" but I'm not absolutely sure. The cafe directly opposite was also a popular meeting place before evening classes. Bob Dylan's "Like a rolling stone" would be...
