    save the wellingtons cats

Thanks Lyn. I think I had assumed from a quick read, that this would have had to have been a part of a blanket ban, which would have impacted on all "Black Country Ale" pubs. Not that I'm suggesting they would be after their blankets too! ;) I note the reference to pint or sandwich in my last...

    save the wellingtons cats

When I go to The Bull next, I will let my fellow quiz attendees know about this. All Black Country Ales cats (including the one at The Bull below) should stay in place, as Mike has rightly said, it's the board at BCA that need to go, with their tails between their legs! This cat (Ellie) is...

    save the wellingtons cats

My wife has just had a local BBC News alert on her mobile about the cat's at the Welly Lyn, which shows that the news is getting around. The cat at The Bull belonged to Rose (the previous landlady) and stayed behind, as it had grown so accustomed to being there. BBC link...

can you place any forum issues in here after the rebuild

I have been doing that too. After posting nothing seems to have happened, but by refreshing the page, it is clear that the post has actually been added to the thread and I just copy and delete below the thread, rather than post it again, which had previously resulted in a couple of duplicate posts.

    Handsworth Park Victoria Park Handsworth

Those dogs are confident they will get a much needed drink from them. Perhaps, that's why I was always told to give the taps a wipe before I put my mouth around it? I didn't always... ;)

    save the wellingtons cats

Thanks for highlighting this. What harm do these cats do? I think that it's rather nice to have them around and they've spent many years in these pubs, after all. It can't be about food hygiene in the pubs, because the Welly doesn't serve food and if that is the reason, far better having a cat...

    Birmingham silver makers marks

I would think it is likely to be silver, although it could possibly be EPNS (as were several I found at home, that had been subject to similar tarnishing). Difficult to be sure from the hallmarks visible, pity Nicola didn't have the luck to find the sale catalogue entry, along with the spoon.

    non contact.

I usually pop on the site daily to check "What's new" Paul. It is a good way to check for new posts. That is probably a case of me (as a relatively new member) trying to teach a long standing member, like yourself how to suck eggs ;), but I find it's a good way of getting involved and there is...

    Mystery Advert

Chocolates are always a favourite, so that has a very good chance. How about tea though? Or perhaps their tuck boxes?

    Mystery Advert

Well found indeed! Just the place for Christmas Shopping 104 years ago (1 & 2 Below), their cheese cellar (3), inside the store in 1920 (4), their café (5), the cooked meat counter c.1920 (6) & a 1913 advert (7).

    General Election history, Birmingham

The infamous Oswald Mosley, ran for Labour against Neville Chamberlain in the 1924 General Election in Birmingham Ladywood, losing by just 77 votes, following a recount (1 & 2 below). In 1926 he became MP for Smethwick, winning the 1926 by-election (3 - shows him campaigning on 18/12/26): 1...

    General Election history, Birmingham

I did the count a few times at Slade Road School in the 70s (including the 1979 General Election). You had to be very quick and very accurate. It got a little annoying when party officials appeared over your shoulder, every few minutes to check what you were up to (I was counting, wasn't it...

    The Midland Hotel (Burlington Hotel)

As the census records people who were living/staying at an address on the census day itself, it may have been Max was elsewhere on the census day, if he was not recorded. Sorry, if I'm stating the obvious.
