Lyn. Thanks for the link. I'd have liked to be there but have a pre-existing commitment.

    A decision I certainly endorse.

Only just noticed but is this Lyn replying to a PM and instead posted it on the Forum? We all make mistakes. As someone who, in researching Albert Edward Sharp, spent 20+ hours, over a period of about a week, to corroborate the summary in Post #144, and feels honored to have been in a position...

Cheers Alberta. Thanks for that. Rather remiss of me not to mention that we also have some very capable Researchers here on this site.:smug:

    Captain F Townley MC DCM

Replying to this thread has lead me to again look at this line and on the Ancestry "UK, WWII Civilian Deaths, 1939-1945", I see that his (Edward Stanley's) parents, James & Jessiemine, and sister, Alma Eileen, aged 21, died 10 Apr 1941 at 1 Torry? Grove, Eastfield Road, Alum Rock. Perhaps I...

    Captain F Townley MC DCM

Hi Richard, I, and a few others on here use, https://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/index.php and https://www.genealogy-specialists.com/ Whilst the 1st one is actually owned by the people that own the site Forces War Records, it is not a War Records site as such. It is a Genealogy site...

B'ham St Phillip, 1830. Can't decipher a place name for Elizabeth Holmes

Thanks, I'd considered Stourport but...... can't really see it. It certainly seems to end in __port. If a Public Tree is to believed then the father, John Holmes (1791) was born in Claines, not far from Worcester. I'm still open to suggestions.

B'ham St Phillip, 1830. Can't decipher a place name for Elizabeth Holmes

For those with an Ancestry account this record appears in the Birmingham Library collection. Search parameters are: William Holmes b.1820. Parents:- John and Susanna...

Going back a bit. C'mon Lyn. Spill the beans.:courage: Alan and Olive Green. Post #144, Page 10. I was obviously accurate on that bit but.....what of the siblings? Sometimes we don't choose to remain in contact with the 'extended' family, but did they offer any details concerning other...

    Ironmongers

Blimey. That tested the memory cells. Knew it well. There was a driveway between Oldknow Road and Malmesbury Road with a building in between. I followed the link and it seems they are still trading but, off Avenue Road, Nechells. I've given them a ring. Very friendly and helpful but, unable to...

Some useful replies here. Thanks. I've got someone calling in at Nutters during the week so I may know more by the weekend. Whites would have been the place I was thinking of. Didn't even think that it might still be trading. Bob's Models. I well remember that place. Is Julia still running...

This sort of follows on from the discussion/demise of A B Fletcher. I know about Nutters at the old Black & Decker site, but having sent them a message a week ago, I haven't had a reply. There used to be a place in [I think] Stratford Place that sold all sorts of nuts and bolts but...

Sparkbrook Club pre 1900 up to around 1960

The one I talked about was not a Snooker Hall per se. It was more of a Gents Club where Snooker, etc, was played.

National Shell Factory Washwood Heath 1917

I think that is more likely to be what became Metropolitan Cammell?

My contribution Whilst the MI and other records give a year of 1917, the Death registration and Parish register both record the year as 1918. Of the children, what can be inferred is that:- Gladys Ada Emily Sharp married Frank Edgar Green 1923, Q4, 6d, 1045 Elvina Lillian Alexandra married...

    Downes

In all likelihood, there would have been an Inquest. When I spoke to Birmingham Central Library some years ago they stated that they have Coroner's records going back to the late 1800's. However, as to what such a record would contain, I'm unsure. Probably just a summary of the conclusions and...

I'm still here. My contribution on Albert Edward Sharp is essentially complete. I'll try and post it tomorrow - Friday.

Actually. I was contemplating the opposite. A full biography, detailing the parents, occupations, siblings, abodes, children, etc - as much as we can glean from records available. If there were to be a re-dedication ceremony, which I would hope there might be, then too much information is...
