Jelf Family Research (Wichenford, Samuel Jelf etc, early 19th century)

Another useful source may be the Badsey Historical Website, https://www.badsey.net/history/jelfs.htm Although the East Worcestershire Jelfs (with an 's') may be a different to your Jelf line but perhaps inter-connected at some point.

Jelf Family Research (Wichenford, Samuel Jelf etc, early 19th century)

Welcome. If you search for the name Jelf there have been previous mentions of the name, particularly in the Badsey/Bretforton areas of Worcs. Much was posted by Alan [Astonian] who has since passed on.

    Bailey family of Lower Heath

I meant of course, Metropolitan Cammel. DOH!

    Bailey family of Lower Heath

Would the Saltley/Small Heath locations suggest he more likely worked at the Metropolitan Carriage works?

    Birmingham's Working Horses

I can't help with the derelict building but in the 60's it was known as the Matthew Boulton Technical College and they had 3 or 4 prefabricated class room buildings in Brasshouse Passage. On the left going from Broad Street.

    Disgusting food

Went to the local Tesco a few weeks ago. In the 'reduced' section. Pork Sausages with Black Pudding. Couldn't resist. :) Got to the check-out and the 'operative' viewed such with disgust.:( Obviously not someone with 'Midlander' tastes.

    Great Western Railway

I notice that the item about the Cornishman makes reference to the use of a Slip Coach. There is a film showing the last use of a Slip Coach on YouTube

Alberta. Glad you got it sorted. Another FREE program to run is Eusing Registry Cleaner. It tends to ask for a code but just ignore that. What is the Registry? A full explanation is available here:- https://help.comodo.com/topic-159-1-290-3248-.html Essentially it points your computer to where...

    High Speed Train 2

I stand corrected. I was always led to be believe that there was no volunteer input. As for the South Devon, I will be down at Buckfastleigh next month to collect some fabrications.

    High Speed Train 2

Not exactly. Several have income numbering many £million You are confusing the Dartmouth Steam Railway with the South Devon Railway. The Dartmouth Steam Railway has no [zero] voluteers whereas apart from South Devon Railway Engineering (a separate company) the South Devon Railway is highly...

There are lots of FREE software downloads to sort out most computer problems. Avast has been mentioned. There is also AVG, Advanced System Care from IO.Bit. Ccleaner (although if not careful, that can remove stored Passwords - untick boxes as necessary), and many more. Although, having too many...

Where to find out how a street got its name?

Lots of new build estates going up near where I live [not Brum]. There are certainly no reported 'naming ceremonies' conducted by persons 'high and mighty'. Don't forget, as soon as a house is completed, it is sold and occupied, even though the site, in general, might still be under...

Where to find out how a street got its name?

In that case, I'd guess at Freda Cox. Mayor 1977-1978

Where to find out how a street got its name?

I don't think there is a definitive 'means' by which a street is named. I assume, in most cases, it is something agreed between the site Contractor and the LA. I was told [by his daughter] that Horton Square was named after Ernest Horton, former Mayor.

    Hopkins, Francis John born 1863

That would be what the Minister entered on the Register, or, as it has been transcribed from the Register. I've been involved in Transcribing for many years and whilst some Ministers might be somewhat harsh with Margin Notes such as 'Illegitimate' or 'Bastard', others may have taken a milder...

    Hopkins, Francis John born 1863

The problem with Death Certificates is that the accuracy is only as good as the informant believes. Perhaps we should all write our own beforehand?:) FMP shows, Place: Clun and Bryn Francis John Hopkins Baptism date: 01 Feb 1863 Father's first name(s): Francis John Mother's first name(s): Jane...

    Birmingham City Police 1839 - 1974

Hi Andrew. Although the name Don Woodhall rings a vague recollection, I can't say that I remember him. As for Mill Meece, certainly from the late 60's BCP Officers were trained at Ryton-Upon-Dunsmore which is just outside of Coventry. I did happen to drive along that road a few years ago and...

    Housing : Birmingham experimental housing

I was going to suggest Watson Road/Tranter Road. To me, the houses on that estate seemed, er, 'different'.
