Artefacts : Repurposed artefacts or items of historical interest

I'm not sure if it qualifies as 'artefacts or items of historical interest' but sometime in the 90's (I think) the Signal Box at Hall Green was dismantled by volunteers and then rebuilt at Winchcombe (Glos).

    Parish maps?

Family Search has an 1851 map based on Parishes. It's not very easy to find and nor is it user friendly. https://www.familysearch.org/mapp/

Ernest Priddey Deceased 31st May 2020

True in some respects but, being not entirely sure how these Probate links work, I was looking to see if his [Ernest George] Mother had any siblings that might have surviving issue. It seems not.

The 1911 Census shows she had a Brother, Alfred born 1906. Edited to add, in 1939 he is shown Uffculme Mental Institution, Queensbridge Road, as a Labourer. Not sure if there as an inmate or a worker. Another edit to add that he died in 1957.

Railway Manufacturers in the West Midlands

An interesting article from the NRM. Ambulance Trains were of course, used this side of the Channel to transport the injured from the Southern ports to the London Hospitals (and beyond), there being no Motorway Network in place at that time and road transport would have been far more arduous...

    Is This Your Motor?

Don't throw them away. I volunteer for a Heritage Railway restoring 1950/60's carriages. Virtually everything is either Whitworth or BA, with door hinge mounts being 1/4" BSF. And before you ask, we have enough for our own needs. Although, a couple of years ago, a Restoration Team (for a Loco)...

St Peters Church, Harborne, Freda Strawbridge Headstone

On another thread, https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/where-to-find-out-how-a-street-got-its-name.51089/ Someone asked for why Freda's Grove got its name. I suggested that it was in recognition of a former Mayor, Freda Cox. Perhaps, having seen this discussion, it is in...

    Is This Your Motor?

Was the Wolseley 6/80 the six cylinder version? I think a mate of mine (at the time) had a Wolseley 4/50? The four cyclinder version. His geabox 'went' and the only suitable replacement we could find was from a Morris. The difference (as I remember) being that the Wolseley was a column change...

It may not even be that. Perhaps the 'Tyrant' was Drink?

    Disgusting food

Going back to post rationing cuisine, the Sunday Roast Yorkshire pudding was always cooked in a circular tin. 'Pudding' was a slice of Yorkshire 'pud' sliced laterally, and then sprinkled with sugar. I'm not sure I'd fancy that now. The one thing that I do remember (and miss) is the pot of...

    Birmingham ship light manufacturers

I think perhaps it an abbreviation for Limited (as in Limited Company) but more commonly abbreviated as Ltd. From viewing old Church records, it was not an uncommon practice to place a horizontal line below a superscripted letter. Would G. P. Limited make more sense?

    Stechford

I remember the old bridge before it fell down. A single lane brick built bridge that was slightly arched. One day it was there. A storm overnight - and it was gone! Slightly earlier but, looking towards their retirement [a few years henceforth], my parents bought a house opposite the North...

    Woman's Auxiliary Police Force Birmingham

Nice photos but something is not right. There has never been a City of Birmingham Police, at least, since 1889 when the Birmingham City Police was named as such.
