    Canal Walks

I cycle the canals around my area and yes I do have a British Waterways permit to do so. There has been an interesting series on one of the satellite programmes, probably one of the Discovery Channels were they completed a circular journey around a route known as "the Stourport circle"...

    Harvo Malt Bread

Thanks for your contributions, it was certainly still in business sinthe 70s and I remember Uncle used to have some smart company cars, one of which was a Volco 144 and as I had recently aquired a driving licence he let me have a run around Hagley, where aunt and uncle lived, in it. It was...

    Harvo Malt Bread

Does anyone remember this bakery and if so where exactly was it? I ask because a late uncle of mine, Bert lloyd was a director and he never came empty handed when visiting!!! It was delicious dark bread that had a lovley aroma and it was even better with a bit of butter on it, I can taste it...

    Nicknames

Apparently when very young I kept my parents awake at night by crying, so dad used to call me "nonshall" shortened to nonch . The name came from the well known operatic aria "Non Shall Sleep" or "Nessun Dorma"

    Birmingham buses

I never realised they removed most of the front bulkhead for that O.M.O conversion!! Those Tigers were nice buses.

    Didcot Railway Centre

Cracking photos Coiln and they look much more atmospheric in B/W, but I think the King would be far better in Brunswick green. Is the centre still under possible threat of closure?

    isle of man TT

By a strange coincidence we returned from the IOM today having been on a coach holiday to the island. The pavements on the race circuit are being painted in readiness for the race . The coach driver pointed out that thereare no "cats eyes" on the roads used for the race, I have watched bits of...

    Saltley Hot Air Balloon Accident

Thats really sad. Im not convinced these things are safe anyway. They cannot be steered and seem to be at the mercy of the prevailing winds, they might have been around for thousands of years but that doesnt make them safe, ban them!!

    Birmingham Buses 1953

I allways thought these "tin fronts" looked better after they cut the bottom of the wings away to allow better brake cooling. Presumably thats why the dustbin lids on the wheels went as well!!

    Birmingham Buses 1953

Lovely pics Novelty, the only one I immediately recognised was the Leyland at Bearwood. Providing you have decent light and the fixed focus lens is within its own focus range it suprising how good photographs can be when taken with relativly inexpensive cameras, well done.

    F & M Coaches

I remember Bearwood Coaches well because they were used for private hire at the school I attended in the 60s and probably the local church for its summer outing. I believe the proprietor Joe Morris was the brother of Harry Morris, one time proprietor of Gliderways, Bearwood, until he sold out to...

    Ashmores highlander coaches (smethwick)

Yes thats the one, if you look closely at that pic mentioned I save a suspicion the coach behind it is also owned by Ashmores. For a small concern they did occasionally achieve mention in the press, they get a mentionin the 1966 buses annual in an article about AEC Renowns, the tri axle single...

    F & M Coaches

Hello Claribel, I recall this name but I cannot find any reference to them in the PSV Circle/Omnibus Soc fllet list publication that I have for Birmingham&Coventry (Issue 2PD11) I cannot find the exact date of the list but Its probably early 70s and has no mention of F&M and they dont seen to...
