    What a lovely card. I didn't know the Police used to have an association for giving out footwear and clothing.     Jules65 - I have often found that newspaper cuttings - even the small ones - can provide valuable clues to family research. That little snippet definitely seems to have given you a lead! I have found quite a few women living with a 'lodger' and then later they are listed with their 'lodgers'...

    Mike, that must be why I can"t another mention of The Shrubberies for sale in the papers - perhaps Thomas inherited it from William in 1893, tried to sell it and then kept it instead??? William was only 31 when he died so I wonder what relation Thomas was to William.
