Oscott Colleges (old Oscott And New Oscott)

If I can refer back to my previous posts regarding the missing burial ground, I think its possible, from the position of the ground on the map, that the college could well have been built upon it. if so then would'nt they have erected a memorial to record it. which brings me back to my previous...

Hi, Astoness, Ive just been looking at "Bing Maps" and their birdseye feature, looking at your map there is a light coloured square just to the right of the clump of trees and to the left of the college. if you zoom in on this with bing there appears to be a small "courtyard" , gravel floor...

Your talk of the Log Books and Trig tables, and also relating to "Jackie" London, reminds me of those trig lessons with "Jackie" Who remembers "SOHCAHTOA" ie Sine = Opp over Hyp etc. That served me well in my early working years, until the advent of the Electronic calculator, such a time saver...

Hi Astoness, I have enjoyed your pics of Lennox Street. My Grandmother lived in Lennox Street, my Dad was brought up there. I remember visiting as a child, that long walk down the street from the north end, Her house was, as far as I can remember, on the left hand side just beyond one of those...

Hi, Carolina Hi, Mike, Just read the latest posts, the name Fred Timmins rings bells loudly for me, but like Mike I am unable to remember were he worked in the company. When I left Turners I worked for a company called Timings Tools, but I am sure I can remember another company around...

    Kingstanding

Hi, Great picture of the circle, Carolina, The buses you can see would be either the 29 or the 29a, the latter went on from there to turn up Kettlehouse road and head for the Pheasey, I think it may have turned around in those days at the Trees Public house. The 29 would empty there, outside...

    Lewis's Department Store

I was taken to Lewis's for haircuts as a child, you used to sit on horses, zebras and other animals. and who can remember the childrens shoe department, where there was an Xray machine you slid your feet under to check the fit of the shoes, you could actually see the bones in your toes ! but my...

Thank you Wendy, That looks like the entrance to the old "K" shop where I started work, it was on the opposite side of the road to the main building, above which was "D" shop where I did my machining training. "K" shop was eventually amalgamated with "D" which then in turn was moved along to...

Whittacre, thats the man, Michael. I have a Turner Brothers notepad somewhere, the sort they would hand out at exhibitions, this carries the directors names etc, you are probably right, but I think the names of their wifes would also appear on these documents as directors of the company. If I...

Jack Webley I believe, but wasn't another director appointed, his names on the tip of my tongue, tall fellow, with lots of ideas for changes to the company, good or bad ? depended on which side of the fence you sat. redundancies come to mind ?

Got it!, Thanks Micheal, I remember working on some large jigs which may be the jigs you are referring to, The "drawings" for those parts were printed full size onto sheets of aluminium called "lofts" which we would carefully cut out to produce the templates for making the jigs.
