Here's the old KD on New St. taken in 2008. I spent many happy momments in the self service basement that was usually rammed in the mid 60's, Mossy you could buy anything in that Cafe', Del boy goods.
Hi Marshall50, are you part of the family that owned this fantastic store, or is your name just a coinsidance? The building is still there with an Iconic frontage but I believe the business is long time gone. I do hope you liked the photos of the inside in previous post. If you have any photos...
Robert thanks for the info. That's the club Tommy Griffin ran with Shamus Donleavy whom was Tommy's uncle. I used to sit with Jonnie Griffin (Toms younger brothe ) in Joe Parkers class and funny enough I also was cained by Joe for talking to Jonnie. Happy days wak! wak!
My pleasure Aidan, fascinating post. I will search my photos for the old Rotunda, but I am sure I have seen this building on old paintings at the History and Arts Museum in town.
These photos were sent to me from my Chinese friend Chang whom lives in Panang. I have visited him and other friends there and had a few golf rounds with them. They are very British in there life styles, and I have left them with slight Birmingham accents!!
Here are a few more. Will try to dig...
I have some photos from both Panang & Burma. But would anybody be interested? It shows Old Colonial buildings and transport systems such as old Buses, Trams and Trains possibly all built by the Brit's including I suspect Brummies.
As usual Phil, you haver come up with the goods. I used to buy my "sherbet and liquorish sticks from that shop. I used to go to the Carlton cinema every Saturday afternoon and then over to the park swings after. We must all have been in that area at the same time. Its now hard to believe that...
You lot have reactivated my memory bank, 90 a side football matches played on mud every day, the metal cup the old folks by the swing and the frightening Parkie, he used to look like the inspector of "On the Buses", Great memories. I drove past the other day and it now looks even smaller. I...

the guy on the bottom row 3rd from the left with the bushy fair hair is Tommy Griffin, he was Shamus Donleavy's nephew and lived in Sparkbrook. Tommy owned the club on the Stratford Road, just before Walford Road, I cannot remember the name of the Club. Tommy was a great character of his...
Richie love your photo where did you get it from? The reason I ask is that the dude in the suit talking to the girl smokeing is yours truly me! and the girl smoking is Shirley Teaga and the girl to her left is Maxine Hull my future wife. There are also a couple of others I notice on the photo...
I love the photos Phil, but you know I much prefer the old high street, with all its old buildings and what great lamp post's. The place had great character then what a pity we didn't just restore our old buildings like other great city's. When will we learn from our mistakes?
Phil I remember my Nan taking me there to pick up her "Divey" great memories. She was an active member of the Co-op. My wifes mates used to work in this building as "comptomitor operators"
Keep them coming folk's, love it!
Regards
Bobby
