I'm looking for info and photo's about the original Mod culture in Birmingham and Coventry. I'm particularly interested in the fashions and scooters of the era, along with information about clubs, nightspots & cafe's that were popular with the mod scene. I was only a youngster at the time and my...

    King Edward Lichfield Road

Well Well Well !!!! I guess it just shows that no one from the council or the planning department knows the area or has bothered to check things out. Having said that, why didn't the brewery tell them it was still a going concern? They recently spent a lot of money doing the place up........ All...

The row of colours above the breast pocket would be his medal ribbons. The Lanyard is usually (but not always) the regimental colours plaited together for ordinary ranks and NCO's whereas Officers generaly wore a lanyard of one colour, usualy the principle regimental colour and a more senior...

As Paul said in post #28, there wasn't a rank of Colour Sgt Major. "CSM" represents "Company Sergeant Major"

Although Astonians information is probably correct, it wouldn't be relative to your records Nico. The SLR Rifle didn't come into use with the army until the mid to late 60's.

    New Birmingham library plans

Hand on heart, I'm not much of a modernist. Up to now I've reserved judgement on the building but Wendy's analogy, "A Large Brillow Pad" is the most apt description I've seen up to now. I'm sorry but I just don't like it!

    Brookvale Park & Witton Lakes

The tunnel was there in the early 60's when I was a kid and like all of you I ventured into it several times but never got that far. I stopped on the way home from work tonight to have a look if it's still there. It is! but it's so overgrone with weeds thats it's hard to realise that there is a...

    Park Lane

Many Thank's Toast. That's exactly what my friend was looking for. I spoke to him last night and he confirms that that was the place. He was begining to doubt his own memory because no one else remembered the place. My friend lived in the "Chippy" on Nechells Park Rd (corner of Crompton Rd) and...

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

Interesting, but why BHX. It must stand for something? In these codes, the location of the airport or the airport name is generaly used so I guess it would be right to assume "B" stands for Birmingham but why was H & X added or adopted. There must be a reason somewhere for it?
