Hi Blackham. If it was a twin boom aircraft, for the time frame you state it could only have been a Venom. So that is a valuable piece of info for me because I have not been able to find any reference to Vanom trials aboard "Illustrious".

Thats right Jean, that is my dad. Sid and Spuddy left at about the same time. My dad stayed with them until the end of the strike and then they wanted to make him a manager because he was a strong union man and they wanted to quell his union activities. He refused the promotion and left.

Any of you remember my dad "Ramrod" Ron Timmins (also known as "Cowboy") or my Uncle, Sid Timmins who was the Ansells Youth Team Football Coach or my other Uncle David "Spuddy" Baker. They all worked as draymen in the 60's and early 70,s ?

Hi again Blackham. Further to my last I have been able to find out a little more info for you. The Venoms deck landing trials took place on Centaur. and the Vixens trials took place on Victorious but I can now confirm that the Supermarine 510 (the Attacker) carried out deck landing trials...

Blackham. The first jet aircraft to land on a carrier was on 4th December 1945. A Vampire flown by the famous Eric " Winkle" Brown landed on HMS Ocean. The Sea Venom became operational in 1954 so they may have done the trials in the early 50's but I have been unable to find any data to support...

I know the Old Green Man is famous for its beer but do they serve "SPIRITS" there?:D

Hi Blackham. You have to be a member of the AHA to be eligable but if it's a success I may take my Collection and Displays to Tamworth RNA at a latter date and that will be open to all ex-matelots.
