    Tonk Street

mikejee, please forgive me for butting in like this - several years after you posted this - but I am looking at what is Worcester Street on the right hand side of the map, going up past the New Market Place. What would this be called today, please? I thought it would be Livery Street as it...

    old evening mail pics.....

Hi Christy! I can't remember the name of the owners but do remember that it belonged to a Jewish company because shops could not open on Sundays then, unless they were of such a faith - ie Sunday was not their Sabbath. I remember going there and still have a mirror I bought in the early 70s...

    Rivers : River Rea

Hi Steve! I think you had the best time in the 60/70s before everything changed beyond recognition. From what you say everyone would have a fit these days to read how you spent the time out of school. But that's what children did then and it was safe to be just children. Though I don't know...

    Rivers : River Rea

Lloyd, that's really great.Thank you. When you see part of a river, you never think about where it starts, ends and the places it passes through. I really enjoyed those pics and have learned something new. Thank you. No, it's not as rural as it used to be but it looks like it still passes...

    Kings Arms Moore’s Row

Re: The king's arms, moor(e)'s row, off floodgate and near milk sts in digbeth/derite Thanks for your reply. Archives & Heritage do have a mention of the pub but no picture or any further details other than the possible age. They were able to tell me where in Moor(e)'s Row it was and the...

    Kings Arms Moore’s Row

Re: The king's arms, moor(e)'s row, off floodgate and near milk sts in digbeth/derite Phil Thank you so much for finding that. It looks very sad now but I suppose at the end of the 1700s and beginning of the 1800s it could have been quite the place for the locals to go. I am very grateful...

    Kings Arms Moore’s Row

I wonder if anyone on the Forum knows of a pub that used to be in Moor(e)'s Row in Deritend/Digbeth areas. My ancestor, William Gossage, was victualler of food and drink there for over 20 years from the end of the 18th century. It wasn't a very wholesome place as the district was home to...
