    Paradise pre development 2014 -2016

If anyone want to keep up to date on what is going on in the Paradise site then I have posted a whole group of photos on the Skyscraper City web site. This latest posting explains all the road works that are taking place in the area, why they are needed, and how things are getting on...

    Paradise pre development 2014 -2016

I was up there today. There will ALWAYS be a walking route from Chamberlain Square to Centenary Square, though it may move around a bit as the demolition of the library takes place over the next year or so. At some point they will redirect the path so it goes near the Sir Adrian Boult Hall...

    Windows 10

I used to work in Software development for a large IT company. I used to love the saying "software is never ready, it just ships every now and again". ALL software ships with bugs, but in the last few months before a product ships companies don't like to fix the bugs (unless they a major bugs)...

Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

Of course Ringo replaced Pete Best in the band, and I always consider him one of the unluckiest people in the world. He had slogged around as a member of the Beatles for years, his mother owned a café and had allowed the early band to rehearse and play there. Yet just months before the Beatles...

    Library Of Birmingham 2013

While we should not discuss the rights and wrongs of this, I believe the library was actually planned during the time the Conservatives/Liberals were in power in the council. But it is now being run when the Labour party are in power in Birmingham council.

    Windows 10

Windows usually keeps track of photos you have already downloaded from your camera and only downloads the "new" ones. Because you have installed a new version of Windows (10) it has no record of what you have already downloaded so it downloaded everything again. A quite reasonable thing to do.

    Windows 10

What were you trying to do here, were you trying to do a "clean install" of Windows using a Windows 10 DVD? And if so were you trying to put in the Windows 7 or 8 product Key? If so Windows 10 will NOT accept a Windows 7 or Windows 8 Product Key. To do a "clean install" of Windows 10 using...

    Favorite film ever

For those of you who like "old movies" then you may be interested in a TV channel called Talking Pictures. It is I believe only on Sky at the moment, on channel 343 (in the Movie section), though I believe it is due to go on to other platforms like Freeview soon. It is run by a group of...

    Windows 10

Logging on with your email address and password started with Windows 8. In previous versions of Windows you just needed a logon "name", like Fred, and an optional password. However you can still set Windows to require only a logon userid if you wish and NOT your email address/password...

    Birmingham panoramic

Stitching photos together is pretty amazing nowadays. Here is a panorama I produced by stitching about 9 photos together, and you cant see the joins. This is the Arena Central site (where the Central TV studios used to be) Pan3 800 by Guilbert60, on Flickr

    Windows 10

Looks like it only affects the Home product. Most "home users" who upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.1 will upgrade to the Windows 10 Home product. Found some text on the web which says "Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available, Windows 10 Pro and...

    Windows 10

Most of us who use Windows see it as one single program with just the one user interface, but Windows is a very complex piece of computer software which consists of millions of lines of computer code and thousands of small programs all working together and "talking" to each other. Normally an...

    Windows 10

I believe to see the "Windows 10 is coming" options you need to be on the latest level of Windows 7 (in other words all Windows updates installed) or on Windows 8.1 with all updates installed. You WONT see the Windows 10 options if you are still on Windows 8.0 (in other words have not upgraded...

    Birmingham Jazz Alive & Well

Ginger Baker has been mentioned a few times on here. For those interested there was a program about him on BBC 1 two nights ago, and is available on the BBC iPlayer for the next 27 days or so. As you may expect from Ginger, plenty of swearing, with him having a go at the interviewer a few...

British Film Institute film of Birmingham

Re: British Film Institute film of 1930s Birmingham Below, link to fascinating (if rather technical) film of the building of the ring road in the 1960s. Lots of views of the city from the 1960s, and it does show how this ring road almost totally wrecked the centre of the city Note you have to...

    Birmingham Jazz Alive & Well

With the rise in people getting information from the internet on smartphones, tablets and computers, there is less and less need for any printed material. I think over the next few years we will see most of the daily newspapers disappearing one by one. In fact I predict in 10 or 20 years time...

    Birmingham's Image And Status

I think the poster above was complaining about the NatWest tower (which you HAVE included) and not the Post Office tower. I think the NatWest tower is an ugly building (sadly another ugly John Madin building)

    Birmingham's Image And Status

While the old Nat West Tower is due to be knocked down, sadly they plan to replace it with an ever larger tower. I find that rather sad as most of the buildings in and around Colmore Row are only a few floors so this building will stick out like a sore thumb. Have a look at the View Gallery...

    Birmingham's Image And Status

I took this photo in Birmingham today. The tall tower on the left was designed by John Madin, who designed the old library. This tall tower is also due to be demolished (and replaced by an even taller tower). To the right of the Cathedral is the Post Office tower, and to the right of that is...

Films From The 50s And 60s?

I was searching on Sky today to find a certain film and I found it on a TV channel called Talking Pictures which I had never heard of. Took me a while to find it on the Sky planner but in the end found it in the Movie section, right at the end, on Chanel 343. Not sure if it is on any other TV...
