Thanks - post your thanks here

Agree with all that's been said, thanks to all who run this site. Since lock down I've been on more and more and each day more amazed at the information out there, and for the help everyone gives. Have a great Christmas despite the problems, and a happier New Year than the one that's drawing to...

Not sure what dates you lived in Doidge Road Smudger but don't remember any lads of that name

    House interiors

My contribution to this thread will perhaps be of interest to Smudger as he mentioned living near Brookvale park. I did also, in Abbey Road, George Road end, in one of the Semi detached Council houses. [Where did you live Smudger?] Ours were lovely houses having three bedrooms, a large hallway...

    CHRISTMAS 2020

Love that recording of O Holy Night, really lifted my spirit this morning so thanks. As far as visiting or accepting visits this Christmas, as Lynn said, go with your heart. You know those who you would love to be with and whether or not they have been sensible to keep themselves away from it...

    A malady M'Lady

We still believe in the healing power of Zam-buk and disappointed when we could no longer get it. However, about twelve months ago saw some in a catalogue. Price was terrible, about £6 for a little tin. Still bought it though. Still as good as ever. As far as Virol is concerned, can anyone...

    Rippingille Aston Road

This thread stirs up memories of our old 'black lead grate' as it was called. Arriving home from school to a roaring fire on winters day and sitting in front of it toasting some bread on the old wire toasting fork. As we had no other means of heat in the house mom often used bricks or the oven...

    CHRISTMAS 2020

Missing going into four care homes this year with our Pastor to sing the usual carols. All the residents enjoyed it, and many appearing to be asleep, suddenly woke and joined in. Many of them in tears as it brought back lovely memories Hope next year better

    Brookvale Park & Witton Lakes

Reminds me of the times I sailed my yacht on Brookvale Park and it got stuck on the island and i had to wait and wait and wait until someone in a boat retrieved it for me. Got fed up so started going to Salford Park instead

    MOST AMAZING FOOTAGE

What a great video. It is amazing how the mind reacts to music. Before lock down my wife and I used to go into several care homes with our Pastor singing many of the old Hymns the older folk sang in their childhood. the response use to amaze us and the care staff. On one occasion one lady who...

    Long gone shops

The old Birmingham Co-op. Used the one on Slade Road Erdington, Mom's Divi No. was 171840. When a kid used to be fascinated by them putting money into the circular box, pulling the cord, and it shot to the cashier who then returned any change. Also remember the lovely smell of the saw dust on...

Just looked at similar properties in area and going for 1.25 million. Wonder how much they were in early 1900s?

Hi everyone, What a pity this site does not have a star rating system like the commercial world does where they ask you to rate them on services provided. If so I would be rating at the top. When I started this thread I never expected to come anywhere near the info. received. I have found out so...

Absolutely amazing. I don't know how to thank you all enough. So much clearer now. Yes, as I said before dad had large family and a number of names ring a bell. They were all in the gun trade and I remember Dad telling us once that his mom, when in London was a Gun Barrel browner and used to...

Yes the right DOB 17.9.88. His full name was Edward Johnson, no middle names. What confuses me is the fact he was born in Birmingham unless for some reason his parents moved down to London. Somewhere I have a card of his mothers burial in a cemetery in London and I know after the war we had a...

Wow!! How good are you all. Never imagined I would get so much info in such a short time. Thank you all so much. As far as my own family is concerned the reference to burial of Geoffrey in Witton could very well be my brother, and the Elsie M. could well be my sister, as said, possibly still...
