    In the garden 2022

As I said before I'm sure it is ants. We had two piles of sand earlier this year and my wife had seen ants there. The one was on the drive which is block paved and I couldn't believe how much sand had been brought up overnight. I used Nippon and since then no signs of it returning

Looks to me as though you have an ants nest there. I always use Nippon on them and it gets rid of them easily

Thanks for those photos Vivienne, they're great. As Andrew implied there is certainly something different about them

    Gone out of fashion

Excuse my ignorance but what is challah bread, Can't ever remember hearing the word. My wife always makes two loaves of white bread on a Saturday, and then takes one of them to Church on Sunday, having a list of people who scramble for it. One loves it with cheese another with jam. Can't beat...

    First Driving Lesson

Hope this wont be boring but raise a laugh. In 1956, I had very little money and I bought a 1932 Morris minor or £7.10s. I stripped the engine completely and rebuilt it, adjusted all the brakes etc and painted it black. My cousin taught me to drive and when he and my foreman at work thought i...

We had the same two years ago but it was the squirrels. Last year built a frame work round the tree which saved them. Now this year we have not had one flower on it and the tree has sprouted way out of the netting. Come to the conclusion it's easier to buy them from the shop

Very mixed year for fruit and flowers. Had no cherries and only a few strawberries but lots of Tayberries and Apples. All the hydrangeas flowering well but no poppies.

    Erdington Market Closing Down.

It saddens me so much to see and hear of the deterioration of the places I knew as a child. Being born in Abbey Road Erdington and living there for 25 years I remember so much of the area including the High Street and also places like the Soho Road when at school at Handsworth Tech. Had reason...

    Sawsmiths Saw doctors

I forgot about this trade. Brings back memories of the days I used to sharpen my hand and circular saws, turning them, as the guy sharpening the circular saw. I made clamps for mine though, as the noise was considerable if they were loose by the teeth being sharpened.

Great Photo there. Wife and I only talking about skipping in the road and all the clever things some kids seem to do. Certainly could not do it today

I grew tomatoes for many years and had various success/failure. Gardeners Delight are quite hardy but we preferred the cherry tomatoes. However over the last two years I had the same problem of plenty of flowers but n fruit. There can be a variety of reasons for that. Plenty of tips if you...

    GEC WITTON WORKS

Hi Ray. I remember testing the Hobart motors very well, heavy things compared to most of the other stuff. I have often thought I knew your name but could never connect where from. For some reason thought it was with the probation service where I worked from 1972 to 1991 [not thinking of you as a...

Thanks for that photo Vivienne, brings back a lot of memories. I was in the S.A at Hockley and we used to go to the Citadel on a Thursday evening for the 'Holiness Meetings'. Also my niece was married there. I have also watched the video mentioned is post 46 and saw the name Geoff Platt. The...
