I watched that programme too and thoroughly enjoyed it. What a lovely, gentle man he was and didn't deserve to be so unlucky in love.

Morturn, which search box do you mean? The one on this forum, the one on the BNA website or where? Just tried both with no success. Just brings articles with the word snip in them.

Let me start off by saying that I am not very computer savvy. I have just taken out a subscription to British Newspaper Archive for family tree purposes. I have found several articles that I would like to use. My problem is that I am only allowed to download the whole page and not just the...

    Situation Comedy

I've really enjoyed reading through this thread and it's brought back so many T.V. memories. Two shows not yet mentioned which I used to enjoy were The Lovers with Richard Beckinsale as Geoffrey "Bobbles Bon Bon" and Paula Wilcox as Beryl who described romantic fumblings from from Geoffrey as...

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/nostalgia/wartime-messenger-boy-recalls-work-14875119 I didn't realise that such service existed. Thanks Viv. ps According to Wikipedea to be a messenger you had to have your own bike!

King Edwards Grammar School Camp Hill

Thanks Dave for the name. Powry seems to ring a bell. As you left in the July I started the following September. I can never remember attending a church service for Founders Day only a day off. The only church service I recall was the annual Carol Service.

King Edwards Grammar School Camp Hill

Came across this short film. I remember the film being made I think I must have been in the second form at the time. I recognised a few of the faces, mainly the masters. Great shots of Ray Watson, Ron Jones with the inevitable fag in his mouth, Sid Madge talking with Mr Cross a maths teacher...

ITV NEWS CENTRAL - PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE CELEBRATION OF VE DAY IN 1945?

Just sent some pictures off to Andy which were unearthed just this morning so I fear they may be too late. For members eyes they were taken in Oakhill Crescent, Acocks Green which is where my mother was living in 1945. Perhaps someone recognises a face or two on them, I certainly don't.

    Stratford Road

In 1987 Britain suffered the Great Storm famously not predicted by Michael Fish. Some damage was done in Brum as in other parts of the country. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/michael-fish-hurricane-blunder-27-7941308 Perhaps the damage to the shops was caused by the storm...

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

And how right you were to shudder. My Gt.Grandmother's second husband was a window cleaner and indeed died from such a fall in 1946. He died in the General hospital after sustaining injuries, broken spine and pelvis, after falling 20 feet during the course of his trade. I never met him as he...

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

I'm sorry but I tend to disagree. I believe he is a schoolboy, albeit of about 16 or so years old. He looks to me a typical, if ever there is one, "grammar" school boy and the hat he's wearing looks to me more of a school cap than a deerstalker, it even has what appears to be a school badge on...
