    Joseph Lucas history

It is worth saying Ernie, that the price of local history and company history books vary according to demand, condition and how scarce they are (in your country). Ex-library copies can be good value if you just want a reading copy. I'd look on ABE books (which is owned by Amazon) and see if an...

    Curzon Street Hotel

There are some excellent illustrations in the above report. One of the complications which caused confusion is that the Victorians used the word 'hotel' to refer to the provision of refreshments (at that time they used dormitory to refer to bedrooms). In fact an extension was built by another...

    Curzon Street Hotel

I've had a little dig into why it became known as 'Curzon Street Station' rather than say The Victoria Hotel or The Railway Hotel. Philip Hardwick the architect described it as the Principal Building and Historic England attach a report entitled 'Curzon Street Station New Canal Street...

Civil Defence Training Model – Jewellery Quarter – 1950/1 - (Built by Personnel of the Birmingham Fire Brigade).

Birmingham had a Regional War Room built at Shirley. Plans for these show a two level map room. Would such a model be used there? https://www.subbrit.org.uk/sites/shirley-regional-war-room/ Plans on this generic page. https://www.subbrit.org.uk/features/regional-war-rooms/

That's some model! I wonder what became of it and if there were models of other sections of Birmingham.

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

From 1976-1979 the Grey Cock Folk Club used the upstairs room. One of our fellow Birmingham Polytechnic students had a fine voice and would sometimes sing from the floor. Met A.L. Lloyd - Bert didn't have a great voice, but he had composed the Penguin book of English Folk song and was an able...

    Smallbrook Ringway

I grew up with the original design, but it had deteriorated to a shocking state. As new buildings are constructed there should be a mechanism for ensuring they are kept clean and in good repair. Brummies warmed to our Rotunda as an icon of the city, but the Ringway Centre never saw the same...

    Bartons Arms closes

Interestingly it isn't owned by a PubCo, Oakham Ales owns one other pub in Peterborough which is next to the brewery. The brewery might seek a new tenant, install a manager or try to sell the building.

    Bartons Arms closes

I've had a pint in my local village social club tonight, there are still four pubs within walking distance. Two others closed and have become houses. It has been about 15 years since I visited the Barton's Arms. The pubs in Birmingham city centre are packed at weekends, often standing room only...

    RE: Looking for some assistance

Yes, getting advice is an excellent idea. All I know is that you have to ask the precise question carefully, because that is the only one they will address. (If you use the Freedom of Information process.) Derek
