    Identifying address assistance please

I have three entries, a marriage certificate, a burial and a 1911 census form, all giving the same address, can someone identify where it was please? I have also seen the electoral register which gives another slant to it, and so I am rather puzzled. 1910 burial - Canal Cottages, Gravelly...

I see, but what has the outcome been? I presume you are not in agreement?

I am quite calm, not in a slightest ruffled, but surely I have a point?

Well Austinseven, I still think you should speak to Harborne Historical Society if you believe you are right, as suerly it's in everyone's best interests? I went to what I believed was the best source (and so I imagine, do others) and if you think they are wrong, it's morally right to speak to...

    Fish Lane, Harborne

Well Austinseven, if you look above the information I posted was word for word from Harborne Historical Society. Perhaps if you dispute this, you should speak to Phil Stokes who gave me the information. I am sure he gave me information from records that they have, not because he lives in the...

    George Humphreys, wire weaver

Oh Janice, I hae only just seen the other comment, 43 Cheapside is just near to where he lived, that's excellent, I am so chuffed. Thank you very much. The family I am sure, will be pleased! Shortie

    George Humphreys, wire weaver

Thank you Janice, this won't be him. I guess he had sufficient work not to need to advertise. Much appreciated. Shortie

    George Humphreys, wire weaver

In the 1881 census, George Humphreys was a master wire weaver, employing two men and one lad. Is he listed in Kelly's please, as I would like to know where he worked from? I find it hard to imagine he worked from home, which at that time was a back to back in Moseley Street. It is possible...

Newspapers : From Birmingham Post 150 years ago

I think they were either in pubs or in the person's house Viv, for long time. My 3x gt grandfather died suddenly in 1876 and his inquest was at a pub in Newtown Row. Seems a bit odd nowadays of course.

    School Milk

Alan, I also don't like sterilized milk, however, used in custard it's wonderful! I was brought up on 'Pas', but now I always keep a bottle of UHT sterilized for custard and milk puddings, it's very creamy.

Yes, I know I have MWS, one of the Mitchells is still alive (or he was last year) and he is 99 years old. I am not sure if this is a good thing or not really. I don't mind living a long time if I have both mental and physical well being, but if I am going to be suffering from dementia or...

I agre MWS, however, I have quite a few of ancestors who lived a long time, but I do have to say they all lived in the countryside. My 4 gt (I think might be 3) grandmother on another line outlived her granddaughter and died in 1867 at the age of 96. That was in Cheltenham, she had previously...

This is the burial card of the lady in the photo above, something I treasure greatly, although the age at death is not actually correct.

    Favourite Family History Photograph

I have several 'favourite' family history photos, it is difficult for me to decide which is my most favourite but I have to say this one comes fairly near the top of the list. It is of my gt gt gt gt grandmother Ann Mitchell, nee West, who died in 1868/9. It is a Daguerrotype (spelling?)...

    Moseley Street, Digbeth

Thank you to both Lindyloo and Mike. I did realise the street had been cut short and the one that was No 26 had probably been hit by the bulldozer. The chap I am doing this family history for was brought up without his father, who died three years ago at the age of 66. He didknow his one...

    Moseley Street, Digbeth

Phil, Yes, it is Moseley Street on the census. He lived prevoiusly in Barford Street. I did a 'street view' tour of Moseley Street yesterday, and there are one or two houses, but not used as houses any more of course.

    Moseley Street, Digbeth

Thanks Phil - I use the fabric shop at the end of Moseley Street (but don't know the number), but I did wonder, as there are some houses still there, whether No 26 was, although deep down I did not think it would be. The chap I am looking for was a wire weaver, working on his own account, so I...

    Moseley Street, Digbeth

Can anyone tell me where No 26 Moseley Street was please? There are one or two old houses (sadly converted) still in existence but none where I need them to be. I am doing a family history for someone as a Christmas present (he has some information, but could not finish it in time as I have...

Matthew Boulton (was famous although perhaps not so much now)

    The Sales.

I agree also, I would rather stick pins in my eyes than go shopping at any time to be honest. Sometimes it just has to be done, so you grin and bear it, so thank goodness for the internet!
