Hi Rosie, soory to hear about your health - it's getting to us all these days! I assume Stars was talking about the Icknield St entrance as he got in the little gate. Last Time I passed by the KH Gates was closed but a car was inside and there were some people digging furtively. AS I was on way...

    Grave burialsh

Astonian, Sorry to hear about this. If the grave Deeds say it was for 3, than 3 should be allowed. Cemeteries often try and doge it, if the grave is in an area where they cannot get a JCB in, as they do not like to actually dig anything hand unless pushed. If the grave is full of the number...

Hi Stars - Don't get on the main site often nowadays, and have not heard a thing from any Friends for a couple of years now. However Some cheap publicity stunts by JQRG have resulted in the gates being closed and often locked more nowadays. There were people parking in there, who were not...

    Keyhill Cemetary Inscriptions

You would be better off looking at www.bmsgh.org - They are the Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry - They photographed all the Burial Register (held at Handsworth). You can obtain a copy of the Burial Register for a small fee. (free for members if accessing the records direct...

Central Grammar, International School Tile Cross

I assume the DRW was Mr Weightman (cannot recall his Christian names) - he was PE with Sam Doble and played for Moseley & England Sadly all my reports and school pics were dumped when my parents had a clear out & I wasn't too bothered about them at the time. Brian 1966-1971

    Soho Hill

Wasn't sure from memory, where the road changed it's names - it's got so many on it's way from Snow Hill to West Brom!

Looks more like a Woollies or Burtons from the style of it - bit far up from 'my' end - grove lane end? Bri

Central Grammar, International School Tile Cross

Hi Bert, I was at Central from 1966-1971 In Gressel lane, Tile Cross. Had Cag for French, Mr Evans for History (one of sons as also in our year), "Arnie" Faulkner was a delightful teacher - pleasure to have known him - he also told Ghost stories at the week long camp at Bryntail. 'Pip' May was...

Think it was the Little Brown Jug after that! Just wished I could be 10 again and chat to her now I know a bit more about the family! ( of her own (1 died very young - in WL), Husband died when last one was 3 months old, remarried and got his half a dozen back out of Barnado's, than went to take...

    Great Hampton Row

Hi Lyn - this the Star & Garter you refer to? My Gran, Caroline Selvey, nee Southwell, nee Farmer), with step daughter Annie Savage (Nee Selvey) on the left, having a last drink with the demolition men - about 1964?'ish?

    Key Hill Cemetery

Don't see the point of the problem myself - The Council sealed off the Car park in Key Hill and put the land up for auction - still sitting there unused - but blocked off - including Cemetery lane - a former Public Highway and a legitimate place to park. All Birmingham Cemeteries are free to...

New unseen photos with no locations

Cracking pic of the front of the houses in #472 - Very reminiscent of my last days in Hockley - There were just 2 families left, side by side with half a house at each end, all forlorn in the midst of a demolition site! At least we could see our house from half a mile away - nothing else...

    The Chapel at Handsworth Cemetery

Handsworth chapel was 'out of bound' many years ago, when the steeple started crumbling - it's about time the work was completed. It would still be worth while asking - when the work is likely to be completed and/or would it be possible for a short visit under supervision of the site foreman to...

    The Chapel at Handsworth Cemetery

If you are having no luck with the staff at Handsworth cemetery - who used to be quite friendly - try contacting Bereavement Services in Manor House (Office building next to Market Car park by St Martins)- asking nicely to be allowed in for a brief moment to look/photograph, etc. I'm sure they...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Stewart - there is only 1 memorial on the wall by the Public Graves in B. Public Graves were the cheapest burials available, but you had to pay extra if you wanted your name upon the memorial - which was made after all burials done and they knew how many names to put on it! The graves are only...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Stewart - from memory B 1791 is that by the wall? & P1951 behinds the Mint? If so - these are both Public Graves. They have been reused - some several times over the years, and contain up to 750+ remains (that was the largest we counted). If you are a member of the BMSGH - Birmingham & Midland...

    Warstone Lane Cemetery

Stewart, Section Maps, as well as a printed alphabetical of everyone in both Cemeteries should still be available in the Pen Museum, Frederick St, open 7 days a week, and 5 mins walk from the Cemeteries. WL maps are not totally accurate as The they are the theoretical positioning of graves...
