    Heathfield Road Handsworth

Thank you for these photographs Ian. I know a number of members including me were born at Heathfield Maternity Hospital, I just wish the view included that building. I wonder if any photos of the hospital exist?

    H.P Sauce Birmingham

Now my stock of HP Brummie sauce is exhausted I refuse to buy the insipid glue manufactured in Holland. I have now discovered Levi Roots Reggae Reggae sauce, its the most flavoursome I have ever tasted. Apparently, its the second biggest sauce seller in the UK and its manufactered in the country...

    In The Kitchen Today

Sounds appetising Stitcher though I may have cut the ham into lardons and fried crisply to add more texture to the dish. I have reheated all types of pasta successfully and a quick search on google confirms this though different techniques are necessary depending on whether the pasta is plain or...

Sanitorium Little Bromwich Hospital Yardley Green Road Yardley Road

I was admitted to Little Bromwich at the age of 3 with croup. My only memories are being in a steam tent with boiling kettles and in a corridor, several iron lungs that scared the death out of me. No parental visits were allowed until the day of discharge and they even received a letter telling...

    Bubble and squeak

Call me perverse (which I am ) but adding Worcester sauce and a finely chopped chilli to the potato/ green mixture certainly adds a kick.

    High Speed Train 2

Hi Guibert53 Your post demonstrates exemplary logic. The old saying "anywhere, but not in my back yard" comes to mind. I have enormous sympathy with those living in idyllic villages and the impact any proposed route will have on both the environment and folk living there but progress happens.

    High Speed Train 2

I haven't read the petiton summary but think the stated facts have little substance in reality. One train, passing every 90 seconds at 250mph would give no safety margin if there were a breakdown or other incident with catastrophic results. Aye, few like progress but consider if there wasnt...

    Remembrance Day 2010

During my late teens and early 20s I played euphonium for Aldridge Brass and the WM Police bands playing at many Remembrance Sundays, mostly on crisp winter sunny days. Always, the most poignant site was the veterans standing there proudly at attention and then marching proudly, heads as high as...

    High Speed Train 2

Hi Mabz Have signed the petition but am cognizant of the futility of this if the powers that be make this the prefered route. We have seen this so many times in the construction of motorways and airports. Areas of N Kent were decimated when the London-channel tunnel link was constructed as was...

    Barr Beacon

I have met both those piggies too Jean and very personable they are too. Its such a pity they will be eventally be pork chops. I could never be a farmer, no animal would ever go to slaughter. Your photo of the chickens, I see there are 2 cockerels....so there must be lots of new chicks on the...

    Bsa Factory In Blitz

This was also reported on the "Made in Birmingham" website newsletter. It also states that the planners have given permission for the Armoury Rd building to be cladded, not realising its important historical significance ( its the oldest Truscon reinforced concrete factory building in the UK)...

    Enids Ashes

What a beautiful scene Bernard, I am sure Enid would have been looking down on you with an enormous smile on her face. I lost my Mary in 2005 and like you, I think of her every day and miss her enormously. I hope that in releasing her ashes to a place she loved, has to some extent given you comfort.

Then and Now - Witton Road Aston

Thanks Ian, my old stomping ground. I think the scenes are from the bottom end of Trinity Road looking at the junction with Witton Road.

    Thank you’s for help

Regretably the time we live in. I am reminded of the recent thread "is it just me" and it is clear the lack of manners in not confined to retail outlets but the wider population. This is a timely reminder as the research is often time consuming and dependant upon subscription to expensive...

    The Ratpan

Passed the Ratpan yesterday, boarded up and looking very sad. I hope this is not the demise of yet another Birmingham pub. Must take some photographs in case the closure is due to demolition rather than renovation.

    Sawdust.

Also in the Bull and Bladder aka The Vine Inn in Brierley Hill in the 1980s. It also features in the pub at the Black Country Museum, its purpose I was informed to mop the sputum....yes, too much information. Was frequently used at the sites of the guillotine to mop the spillages.

    West Midlands football history

I have used Norton in the past but found it to use resources very heavily, often slowing the computer to a crawl. McAfee provides excellent protection for my 3 computers and having used it for 3 years find it excellent. Norton may have improved since I used it last.
