Yes, I got it wrong Janice, I was starting at the wrong end of the road. It looks like the house is still there as you say, I have circled it on the 1948 image.

This is a useful reference for all of the gas works in Birmingham. The one located in Adderley Street was only 1.2 miles from Larches Street but it appears that it closed in 1940. It would seem most likely to be Windsor Street or Saltley gas works which were operational until 1974, Windsor...

I was attempting to identify the location of the bombed-out houses but could find no reference on the BARRA website. There is a top quality aerial image on the Britain from above website which makes it possible to identify the location.

Map showing numbers for Geach Arms and Three Horse Shoes i.e. 217 & 232. Difficult to pinpoint No. 218 exactly as there appears to be insufficient buildings between these two numbers but 218 is either part of the building shown as No. 217 or immediately next door

Looking at Kelly's for 1955 & 1964 (I don't have access to the years in between), it appears that Whittall Street was virtually obliterated. Although Parker-Hale Ltd. is visible on both photographs I'm not convinced the premises were still occupied in 1963.
