    Lewis's Department Store

Too young to know the pets corner but I do have memories of Lewis's. I would be sent there every saturday to collect two tins of National Health milk powder for my little sister. We lived in Wellesley Street in Hockley,I would walk to Key Hill to catch the train to Snow Hill, 3d for a return...

    Milk

Cod liver oil and malt! Loved it as a child until I was about 8 years old when it seemed to disappear. Didn't see it again until I suffered a broken leg whilst serving in the Royal Marines in Arbroath. After sick leave I worked in the sickbay for a week or two, there was a large jar (about 2...

    Monument Road Baths, Ladywood.

As a pupil of St Georges School I was taught to swim at Monument Road Baths. Earned my first free swimming pass there. An aunt used to take me have a bath there. No bath in the house at Ladywood Road so this was a great treat. Happy days.

Interesting that the notice in the windscreen informs passengers to pay on entry but there appears to be a conductor on the platform?

    Farm street infants and juniors.

Thanks Lyn, the building is smaller than I remember but still brings back memories. Is that members of the Boys/Girls Brigade crossing the road. I wonder if they were from 1A Birmingham Company from the Peoples Chapel? I joined the Life Boys there and then the Brigade proper. The Brigade paraded...

    Farm street infants and juniors.

Hi Lyn, I endured several worrying ascents of the spiral staircase, always followed by sore hands. Very surprised to read you were caned! I attended four schools (to be fair one was Icknield Street Boys School)and never saw or heard of a girl being caned. Perhaps the teachers were too busy...

Hi Lyn, I have checked the Wellesley Street photographs where I discovered my brother is already on site under the name Kenny and he has commented there. Thinking of others at Farm Street the only names that I recall are: Billy Boyle,Peter Clinton Gerald Wright and Michael Moore. The only girl I...

Belgrave Hotel - Moseley Road And Belgrave Road

Thanks Phil, looks like the pub I remember. As I recall the road to the right with the Cortina is Belgrave Road and Moseley Road off to the left. My Dad and his twin used the entrance in Belgrave Road ,I stood outside, cold.

    THE GOLDEN ARROW OLTON

A school friend of mine, George Brierley, used to walk the owners dog. It was a huge great dane, nearly as tall as us 14 year olds. Would've been around 1967. Nodd

Belgrave Hotel - Moseley Road And Belgrave Road

Link not working. Pity as I believe that this is the pub where;as a five year old my drinking career began. Standing outside with a bottle of pop whilst my Dad and his brother were inside, usually on a Sunday lunchtime

    Bogarts

Often frequented Bogarts with my brother. Always drank Newcastle Brown from the bottle, kept your thumb over the end to prevent anything exotic being popped in. Usually full of rockers, made the mistake of visiting dressed in a parka one night. I think it was only the fact that I was wearing the...
