Back in the day (not to long ago 1980’s) I wore a suit and tie to work every day, preferably white shirts. I would put on a freshly starched shirt, drove to work about 30 minutes and the shirt was full of wrinkles. Today I wear the same shirt ( when I need to), 100% cotton, non iron, looks great...

I think the other part of the equation was the affordability of the goods/clothes for the major % of the population. There will always be and has been those elites with lots of money, regardless without some of them we would be without many of the things we enjoy. I’m not being political here...

    Canals of Birmingham

So very true! Also the impact on the way of life for the populace is quite startling. Particularly rail ways that brought the country much closer together physically and allowing goods and services to be no longer local giving birth to holiday/seaside destinations.

    Water : Birmingham's water supply

The leakage rate of 120 gallons per second is amazingly high, at least to me. Thank goodness for ground penetrating radar saving the day. Ground penetrating radar and the laser version are so much more advanced today and used for things like this as well as uncovering historical sites. I believe...

Just started to watch a series on Amazon about building the railways in Britain and the detail involved. What I did not realize was that the navies (for navigators) the dug the canals moved over and did the railways. The work was very similar, although different. Heavy engineering with much hard...

Lozells Road, Shops, Pubs, Businesses etc

I remember those……on a rainy day with too much stuff in the bag, they could be big trouble. I think we paid 4d for them so we always seemed to want to fill them up as much as possible!
