    Bread and Dripping

No lard or dripping today so I had butter ghee on toast and lovely it was too. Ghee (clarified butter) is used a lot in Indian cooking and can cook at a higher temp than butter without 'burning'. Even after opening it will last many weeks in a fridge.

    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

Used up the last of my tomatoes yesterday, made tomato/red onion/chili chutney. Its taste is similar to Branston but with a 'bite' to it.

    Computer help

You need to make a USB boot drive on your laptop then try and boot your PC with it (if you don't have one you can pick one up from Argos or bigger supermarkets). £5 on a USB drive is better than £85 and in reality its the first thing the shop would try. Git it a go and report back

Holidays : Holidays at home and days out

The gentle hiss of a paraffin pressure lantern is soothing, great on a summer night in the garden or in my little mancave, not because I've no power there but because its just nice :) 1954 Vapalux Army lantern and a little 1960s petrol burner made by Optimus (who took over Primus)

I'm quite a well know stove collector, yes people collect old classic stoves the way some people collect classic cars. I was an active four season hiker/camper and bushcrafter but sadly lung problems have stopped all that. At one point I had 232 stoves in my collection Blast from my past past

Holidays : Holidays at home and days out

If anyone has a Primus in a box let me know, I'll fettle it back to life, sell it on ebay and donate money raised to a charity of your choice. Sold off the bulk of my stove collection, hung on to about 20 for brew duty in the mancave :)

Holidays : Holidays at home and days out

We had a family car around 1962 so during the summer Sunday meant day trips including Stourport. Coughton Court, Warwick & Kenilworth Castles, Worcester were all close to home. Sometimes we'd set off at the crack of dawn and head up to Rhyl Beach or Snowdonia. Picnic packed, Primus Stove for...

    Clothes & shoes of yesteryear

The oldest clothing I own and still wear is a down jacket made by RAB which must be thirty years old now, still very warm although the 'fit' is a little tighter than it was 30 years ago ;)

Serial port issue, have you installed W10 drivers, what cable are you using? are the FTDI drivers up to date? https://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/vcp_e.html Norton and McAfee are much easier to install than they are to remove when you realise just how resource hungry they are and...

    Bread and Dripping

I make chips maybe twice a month and always cook them in lard or beef dripping, the only time I use an oil is a quick spray on fresh diced potatoes to cook patatas bravas in an air fryer (they come out really good). Not a big fan of lard or dripping sarnies unless its 'pan scrapes' which pick...
