    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Again courtesy of Aerofilms this is the the main gate in 1930:- As you can see an additional building (like a small house) then was in the main gate. The canteen block on the left had different levels of dining room including one with silver service for executives! The steps on the left were in...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The end building with the gable roof is where in latter years you could have a set of brand new "test tyres" fitted to your car - all you had to do was log your mileage on a regular basis. A nice "staff perk"!

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Here is an Aerofilms view of Fort Dunlop in 1937 - the "Fort" building is on the right and the Commercial Offices building is on the left:-

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This is indeed Ashold Farm Road - looking towards the Jaguar plant. One the left is the old Dunlop Garages where the test fleet was housed - this is now industrial units. On the right is the top end of Fort Dunlop itself with the main gatehouse and staff entrance just out of shot - the building...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Here is another view of the Sports and Social Club taken during an internal football kickaround:- The building behind is the Dunlop Hall - this was a fully equipped theatre with flytower, and also had a cinema projection box. We made much use of the sports field - here is the Dunlop 10K...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

For info - the pictures above are not of the extant Fort Dunlop building by the M6, but of the commercial office block at the top end of the site, which housed the mainframe computer, buying department, etc. This was demolished not long after these photos were taken - I can remember one...

    Aston Barracks

According to Google (I was not around in 1929) this was where the Portsmouth v Villa semi final was held in 1929. I only visited Highbury once (in May 1981 - won't forget THAT day in a hurry..........:D) and by then it was very different, so I cannot be 100% certain.

    Aston Barracks

Its Highbury (Arsenal's old ground) then - did not think of that one! Villa lost 1-0 to Portsmouth. :sob:

    Aston Barracks

I'm not sure where this is (possibly Molineux or the Valley, Charlton?) - but it certainly is not Villa Park. So it cannot I think be Aston Barracks.

    Keystone View Company Stereographs

Stereo photos are still used today - many stereo pairs were taken on the Apollo moon programs for example, to enable amongst other things topography maps to be created to assist landing planning

    IN OUR GARDEN 2023

Lovely and clear in the garden earlier on tonight - got a couple of nice shots of the moon:- Also managed to photograph Jupiter a little later although by then it was slightly hazy so the camera did not pick up any of the moons:-

37-38 Albion Street, JQ - Old Photos

Apologies - I have checked through all my old "jewelry quarter" photos and I have no shots of these buildings.

    Hockley GWR Station

Here is a better view of the glazed brickwork, taking through a hole in the gate doors:- You can see where the original station buildings were by the extent of the glazed bricks.

    Hockley GWR Station

Same trick on the 2nd panorama does not work quite as well as the camera angles are different and the old photo was taken from further back outside the gates - but I had a go anyway!

    Hockley GWR Station

By merging my first panorama and the 70's photo together you get this:-

    Hockley GWR Station

Had a look at Hockley Station on Thursday - it looks like the electrical goods scrapyard that used to occupy the site has now gone - this is a panorama that I took by holding the camera "over the wall" - as you can see a lot of the old GWR station entrance yard still survives with loads of...
