    George Dixons Grammar School

I am a little puzzled by this story as I don't understand why you changed to a no. 8 at the Ivy Bush when you could have got the 7 (or 5A as it was in my day) all the way to Five Ways. By St Chad's Church I presume you meant St Germains Church. St James Church was a little off the no. 1 route...

    City Centre Photographs

Have found this photo on the Internet of Worcester Street. The entrance to New Street Station via Queens Drive is on the left and the shops stretched up to New Street. I remember a Midland Red office in these shops. I once got a Midland Red bus, I think the X99 to Nottingham from here. I would...

That was a daytime photograph. The men took over for the night shift.

    City Centre Photographs

It is only seeing photos like this during this year that I realise that Worcester Street had such a row of gabled houses lining the street. Another bit of architecture that we have lost.

I cannot hear this song without getting emotional. The Town I loved so well. I heard the Dubliners sing it in a concert at Dudley Town Hall. The first time I heard it, it was sung by the Northern Irish politician, John Hume, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Price for his work in the Good Friday...

T J Skelton Medal Vyse Street

I have changed my mind seeing the cleaned up version and I am sure that it is Chester Assay Office which closed in 1962 so I agree with others now suggesting Chester. I believe that often Birmingham items were sent to Chester if Birmingham was busy.

As soon as I heard the first notes I recognised the piano as a Steinway. However I put aside my prejudices and really appreciated the quality of that performance.

    Give us yer donny

French words used in English don't always mean what we think they mean. I live at the end of a Cul-de-Sac but if I translated that into English from the French I might upset the moderators. As I moved out of Birmingham across the border into the Black Country, I am told I should call it a...

Good music to listen to on U Tube

I made of policy of only buying LPs as I thought that a better deal but this is one of the very few singles that I bought. I think it was the punch line that sold it to me 'The day that my momma socked it to the Harper Valley PTA'.

We do not know if the vaccine would require refrigeration although if the hold was not heated this would not be a problem in the air but would be with the ground handling. I think that figure of 8,000 must assdume that the vaccine was produced all in one big batch which is not going to happen.

T J Skelton Medal Vyse Street

The lion signifies 92.5% silver and the three castles, the Newcastle Assay Office. However Newcastle Assay Office closed long before the date of the inscription which suggests that it was a much later inscription on an old medal.

I never flew on a 747 although I would have liked the experience. Largest plane I ever flew on was a DC-10 British Caledonian flight from Gatwick to JFK

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

One of the links on this page took me back to a post I made back in 2013 when I gave the definition of 'shooting brake'. I had forgotten that, which must have been that last time I saw that term. Even then it must have been the first time in many years I had used the term.
