    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I drove one of my daughters to a Xmas party in the city centre a few weeks ago. After the satnav took us up a dead end (roadworks) by Baskerville House, I told her "I know exactly where we want to go, but have not got the faintest idea of how to get us there"..... If you go that way I recommend...

    The Railways

Amongst Nigel Hadlow's photos are this set from Penns Station in Walmley taken by the look of it not long after closure in the mid-1960s:- Sadly nothing remains of the station buildings today, but the remains of the platforms are still in situ:-

    Hockley GWR Station

On the plus side there has been a very sympathetic repair made to the retaining wall above where the station entrance was - they have gone the "extra mile" to match both the bricks and the pattern as well as possible:-

    Hockley GWR Station

Got a few more photos in the rain on Saturday - unfortunately I could not get into the site so had to rely on telephoto lens:- There is now scaffolding in front of the first open doorway:- Detail of some of the remaining white glazed brickwork:- Rusting drainpipes embedded in the wall:-...

    Hobbies

If you have not already got the kit - they did re-issue the 1970's Airfix 1:24 Hurricane kit as a Vintage Classic a while ago (I assume your Spitfire is one of the new kits based on the detailing). Parabellum in Vyse St Hockley may have one - worth a visit if only to answer the question "how...

    Women war workers of Birmingham

I might have nailed the location - this very similar postcard from the Midland Railway site is labelled 1918 and would pinpoint the location as Saltley Shed:-

Boo-hoo-hoo alert - someone has erected not one, but TWO heavy duty locked gates on the High St entrance path which will now make getting to the station nigh on impossible. :sob: :sob::sob::sob::sob::sob: Good job I got my photos when I did.....
