Once parked up I was again allowed onboard - this time with my trusty old Praktica flashgun armed and ready:- Then we went outside:- Look at those wonderful leathercloth seats:- How many time did you come downstairs on a Birmingham Standard bus and not read the notices above the mirror:-...

Work over it was decided to move it to another part of the garage:- Note the temporary doors at the back - this was to keep jammy-faced-Tiswas-loving oiks from getting on the bus and having a party on it......... Now reversing:-

Inside the main garage was ex-Birmingham Standard rear-entrance MOF 9, which was already preserved (including repaint to BCT colours) and housed in the garage:- It still had a vintage vehicle rally number in its front passenger window:- It was being worked on that day:- Again a friendly...

Next lot - note the Leyland National in the rear:- Here is the interior (I think....) - looks quite comfortable.... Back to bus-loving photographers dreamland - wish I could have afforded colour film...... Nice ex-BCT sign on the wall:- Inside one of the many ex-BCT buses on site:- Now...

Back to the yard - then it was very easy to simply walk in and get whatever photos you wanted on a Saturday or Sunday - I doubt I could do the same now:- Lets go inside BON 501C - I know a naughty little s$%t who used to love turning those bus number handles at the rear - so many buses came...

And some more - note in a lot of the photos of the old permanent way yard you can still see many relics of the tramway era - cobbles, tramlines, overhead wire poles etc:- This is the interior of EOF 242L above:- Back to the main garage now:-

Have you offered them to Birmingham Central Library Archives - they will usually take large specific collections like this I believe?

Hi Lyn; just round the corner from where I used to live too (but not in WW2 I will hasten to add....) Amazing to think you could have a munitions factory smack bang in the middle of a tightly packed residential area - how many people would it have taken out if something had gone "bang"?

Hi Viv; if you look at virtually all the IWM photos I have posted everyone is spotless and most of the photos look posed - very much for propaganda I think - most are by official photographers as well. Any photos from these establishments would have been subject to censorship I guess -...
