John Taylor partner of Lloyd (bank)

Hi Bammot, thank you for your reply. It seems that this John Taylor had a lot of fingers in various pies - interesting man. I've got a lot of JT in my family and I'm trying to see if he is part of it. They were all around Bordsley/Small Heath for a long long time. Sheri

    First Record Bought?

Hi Judy 39, I used to go to that Milk Bar opposite the Holly Bush every Sunday night after the pictures - this would be about 1956/57. The cinema was the Odeon?? at Quinton. Opposite this cinema about 1954/55 was a transport caff and they had a jute box which is where I first heard Elvis. Sheri

    Nonsuch Farm

It was very interesting to see the 1930@s map with Woodgate on it - I lived about 15 minutes walk from Woodgate village as a girl. There was a farm opposite our road until a few years after the war when it was developed into a housing estate. We spent many hours playing in those fields...

Thanks Di - it took me back too - my first boyfriend took me to see Johnny Ray - I was about 14. I couldn't remember where the concert was held. I had the programme for years after. He was my favourite until Elvis came along. Lovely stuff. Sheri

Hi malvern & sospiri, thanks very much for your help. I got the info that John Blackham was a shopkeeper at 13 Holloway Head from White's Directory of B 'ham 1869 but it didn't say what was sold there. As I live in London it's not possible for me to visit the library very often. Sheri

    The Swan, Bell Barn Road

Hi, I was most interested in this thread as my gt.grandfather lived at 293 Bell Barn Rd. according to 1891 census - he was a b lacksmith. Would he have had a forge on the premises? The houses didn't look big enough. Sheri

    Remembering September 11th 2001

I was looking after my grandson while my daughter did a bit of shopping. She came rushing back and said put the tv on - I thought it was a film at first, then realised it was real, watching it in horror. I said to her it would change the world and so it has, in ways we could not have imagined...

    Birmingham Cinemas

I'm glad someone mentioned going to see Bill Haley at the Odeon. It was wonderful and I've never forgotton it - my parents were amazed that I got up so early - even then all the cheaper seats had gone and we had to pay £5 guineas old money which was more than I earned. Of course I had gone to...

    Blackham family

Hi Susen, I don't have an Albina Blackham nor a William/Ellen but that dosen't mean they are not there because I'm sure there are a lot more children than I've got recorded. But I have a lot of connections with Tipton/Rowley Regis/Dudley/Birmingham. The Blackham family is large and there are...
