    Hi Edward, My Taylor family lived for many years at 89 Watery Lane and some of my Nabbs family lived at Court 5 21 Watery Lane. My mother lived there from when she was born in 1912 to about 1931 when her mother died. I know they had an outside loo and a tin bath in front of the fire...

    Can someone tell me where Church St. is or was please. My gt.gt.g/f lived there in 1841 - he was John Hayward/Wood age 45 - a fancy Bellows Maker - I thin k he died between 1841 and 1851 but I ca n't find his family on the 1851 census.

    Perhaps the idea of 'churching' was due to the risk of both mother and child dying - so at least they'd been to church!!! I'm glad the custom has gone, the idea we are unclean appalling. Many parents these days don't b other or have a naming service. Sheri
