    D.N.A. TESTING

The results from each company will be skewed somewhat by their database of DNA tests that they have. A little simplistic but if a company has no DNA for anyone from Iceland say, then the results for someone who knows for certain that they have Icelandic ancestors will probably not show it -...

    Balsall Street

No, Balsall St ran from the junction of Cheapside and Sherlock St to the junction of Bromsgrove St and Moat Row. Now beneath the wholesale markets I think. Map from 1839...

Carriage way in Hill St. 1897

First thought would be that it just meant on the road and probably the road rather than the path.

    Old street pics..

Map below is from 1889, which appears to match the picture if the first couple of buildings were no longer there. So picture taken before then and before Martineau St was laid out maybe? Red arrow Reece, green arrow Grenville's.

    Old street pics..

Reece Bros are listed at both 100 New St and 1 Bull St corner of High St in the newspapers. Grenville's Hosiery possibly at 103 Bull St.

    Six Ways Alum Rock

As per Janice's post #3, John George Jester appears to be listed there on the 1921 census and 1922 ER and was possibly there on the 1911 census.

    Six Ways Alum Rock

It was still Jester's for some years after that, can remember my mom saying she was going there to get something or other. Late 80s, possibly even the 90s.

    Six Ways Alum Rock

Pigeon Post, 1913 lists that property as a Post Office. ;)

    Six Ways Alum Rock

It seems a bit of a stretch to call it six ways. The top of the Rock is five ways, the sixth probably College Road a little further along.

Gowan Road to the left, Alum Rock Road straight on.

    Ravenscroft

Margaret was the daughter of Charles Henry Biddle and Lizzie Brigden. Lizzie was previously married to a George Samuel Stokes. Margaret had 2 brothers and 2 half brothers. Margaret's ancestors appear to be mostly local (West Midlands).

    Ravenscroft

If Reginald was born in 1907 then it's possible he married an Irene M Mellichap in 1927. On the 1939 Register they are both listed as married but living at different addresses. There are births registered for 4 Ravenscroft/Mellichap children.

Sorry, it wasn't your father's mother that married twice, it was your father's grandmother (Leah's mother) that married twice. Leah's father was a William Evans and her step father was George Henry Taylor. When she married she was listed (correctly) as Leah Evans but when her son was born his...

    HOLBROOKS

The photo of the possible bomb damage appears to be a wider (better) shot of the one I posted on the other thread. Though not required for the 1911 census my great grandad fortunately listed employer as well as occupation, and my grand aunt is listed as working at Holbrook's, as a Case Maker I...

A bit of a discrepancy between the mmn listed on Albert jnr's birth reg. (Taylor) to his mother's (Leah) surname listed on her marriage reg. to Albert snr (Evans). Explained by Leah's mother (Ellen) marrying twice, first to a William Evans (Leah's father) and then to a George Henry Taylor...

    Emigration from Birmingham

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but my 3 x g grandad's brother emigrated to Australia (2 children died on the voyage), then to California and then back to Australia (without his wife and most of his children). Luckily there was even a bit of a report about the first voyage.

She wasn't the oldest either, the difference between the eldest and youngest is 56 years. My nan was my grandad's much younger second wife.
