    Thimble Mill Lane

On findmypast it lists marriage status and she is listed as unmarried.

    Thimble Mill Lane

A couple of observations (which may already be known). One of Margaret's brothers, Hedley, is listed as being born in Belfast. One of Margaret's sons was John Brimer Walker. Brimer could be a reference to an ancestor of Thomas or Margaret (mother, grandmother etc). However it's almost...

No Lyn, not at the moment.

    Thimble Mill Lane

I see from the 1881 census that 2 of Margaret's children are with her sister (Sarah) and husband. Also there is her (and Margaret's) mother, Mary. It gives Sarah and her mother's birthplace as Scotland. However further searching would appear to suggest that they were both born in Ireland. In...

    Parkes Harry

Yes, that's from findmpast. Harry (footballer) was born Henry Arthur Parkes in Erdington and I assume the Abbey Road is the one in Erdington. On the 1921 census he would have been nearly 18 months old.

    Parkes Harry

In 1921 they are living at 73 Abbey Road. To go further you'll probably have to purchase the marriage certificate of Henry and Ellen. A simple enough process... https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

Should know by now not to doubt Mike. :)

    Parkes Harry

Harry's (the foorballer) parents were Henry/Harry Parkes and Ellen Harris. Can't be certain of Henry/Harry's parents, possibly a William George Parkes and a Florence Broadhurst though there is a tree that suggests that that's incorrect.

    Thimble Mill Lane

Already doubting myself. I now think only 2 of the houses at an angle are listed on Thimble Mill Lane (41 & 42). Then it jumps to no. 45, which matches the 1891 census. Which leaves 3 numbers between the last 'angled house' and the Prince of Wales, so I'd say it's either the green arrow (if...

    Thimble Mill Lane

Not sure I agree. If the building on the corner (red arrow) is listed under Long Acre and it is on the later maps it would seem that it would possibly be the next but one building (green arrow). Strangely on the 1891 census it seems to jump from no. 36 to 41 missing the Prince of Wales. On...

    Guest family of Aston

Coincidently there's another Edwin Guest born about the same time (1848). He was also the son of a Henry and travelled to the US (1887 & 1901). He was born nearby, though in West Brom and a brickmaker. No obvious relation.

    Guest family of Aston

At first glance I'd say not very common. Searching for Guest in Birmingham on the UK ER records (on findmypast) which covers the years from 2002 to the present gives only 726 results. Some people will appear more than once as they move houses and others won't appear because they removed...

    Daniel Hawkes

I have found a Bartlett/Avern birth reg. Thomas Dec 1843 Bham and a burial for a Robert Strong in 1835 Bham, aged 34. So my tentative timeline would be... Robert Strong (b1801) married Susannah Avern (b1803) married in 1821. They had a number of children including a Mary Ann (b1828ish) named...

Huntingtons in Brislington appear to be a long way back, last baptism 1787, nothing on the censuses.

    Daniel Hawkes

I think the Hawkes/Strong marriage is your one. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence for it... Not many Daniel Hawkes, the 1871 cenus, the eldest child having mmn Timms, the Ashton/Strong grandson. If so it would suggest that Daniel and Elizabeth were together some years before they...

    Daniel Hawkes

Yes, I think so. I also think I've found something that connects the Susannah on the 1871 census to the 1860 marriage. In 1821 a Robert Strong married a Susannah Avern. There is a baptism for a Susannah Avern in 1803 which means her age in 1871 is slightly out but nothing significant. Still...

    Daniel Hawkes

A couple of observations on the 1871 census. I think Daniel's birthplace, as mentioned, is wrong. Arthur D Hawkes was registered as Daniel and it is he that has mmn Timms. The third grandson, George Ashton, was possibly reg. with mmn Strong and there is a marriage for Daniel Hawkes to an...

    Daniel Hawkes

I think Daniel was born in 1829 Minchampton, son of a Daniel and Ann Hawkes. They are also in Bham in 1861. Daniel was born Stroud and re-marries in 1865.

    Daniel Hawkes

Daniel with family is on Longmore St in 1861. A widower in 1871 with in laws, Thomas & Susannah Timms. Daniel's birthplace is different on both. Eldest child is listed with mmn Timms but Samuel has mmn Batlett. I would suspect that his mother in law re-married to Timms but will look further.
