    Unknown beer retailer

MikeJee, I was just thinking, very close by and probably almost adjacent was the Dr's Surgery. Perhaps if you looked at Kelly's for late 50's you might note it listed as a Surgery. The Drs were Dr Brown and Dr McBrown. and I think although I may be wrong a Dr Cole.

    Unknown beer retailer

Hi MikeJee, I'm sure that as listed above, this is on the Cov and the flats are those on Mount Pleasant. Back in the 50's. after playing footie in Kingston Park, we used to cross the Cov on the way home and get a Jubbly from this off license.

Just out of interest, my mother worked at the Brewer and Baker in the 60's and the licensee then was one: JAMES BOND!

    Where are these addresses?

Ewan, I'm not sure if this map might help. Toward the top of the page; you'll find Grantham Road in square 1C and Moseley Road or near the start of it in square 1B. However, Lyndhurst Oxford Road - Kings Norton district is a bit of a problem. There is an Oxford Street about 2 miles from Kings...

Richard Samuel Cooper in Coventry Road

Hello Ellie, The Coventry Road is indeed a long road that runs from Bordesley in Birmingham to Coventry. It is the A45. The part that you are interested in is in Small Heath which is adjacent to Bordesley. If its number 152, it's probably close to the junction with Muntz Street. If 752 most...

    GRANGE ROAD, SMALL HEATH

Talking about Fish and Chip shops, what about the worse ones. Does anyone recall the Chip shop next to the Old Lodge pub on the corner of Bordesley Park road and the 'Cov' - can't remember the name -. I'm sure that only frightened the chips with the fat. Chips 3d fish 9d. I worked with a chap...

    calling all office girls.

Talking about ladies in the 60's Lyn, I had a telephone call from Fleet Street telling me that Mandy-Rice Davies and Christine Keeler were about to arrive at New Street station, so I shouted the news over my shoulder. You've never seen an office empty so quickly. Within a few seconds I was the...

    calling all office girls.

Lyn, I think it was above Teezy Weezy Raymonds - remember him - next door to the Odeon, I think most of the women must have popped in there before class, that is except for those back - combing their hair into the beehive and spraying it with gallons of Margot's laquer. Oh the memories. I took...

    calling all office girls.

Astoness. Yep 36 to 1 that was in typing. There were 2 of us in short-hand, me and a lad who worked for Reuters - I worked for the Daily Express. I was useless at typing, I'd wait til the instructor passed by, remove the tea-towel and race along with two fingers until I caught up. The other lad...

    calling all office girls.

I did Pitmans short-hand and typing, I might be wrong but I think it was in New Street in the early to mid 60's. There were 36 women and me, not suprisingly they just couldn't concentrate! Typing, they used to put a tea towel over our hands, and play Side-Saddle, I was totally confused...a man...
