    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi John Stephen is listed separately on the Memorial. I am really sorry, I should have put that F Western was a possible duplicate of S Western on my 'untraced' list - it just slipped through. Grovelling apologies! But you have picked up a 1906 address which I hadn't got, so I am going to...

I'll get on the case! Just been sorting out the L G Yates (I hope)!!

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Sorry, missed a point on the Yates thread! There is a marriage for a Mary Ann Jenkins to a Thomas Hewson in 1906, although it is Lichfield, He died in 1908, so if this is the marriage, Mary Ann Hewson would have been able to marry Leon Yates in 1909, as recorded.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

I think I'm a bit clearer after some further digging. To summarise:! 1911 census is Mary Yates, her daughter Elsie Jenkins (found them living in Lye, Worcs in 1901 census, Mary then married to Thomas Jenkins), with the son of Leon George (age 6mths) himself named Leon, and Basil Yates, the older...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Have found an Aston link, of sorts. His father George Mallen Yates is resident 223 Nechells Rd in 1883. He'd just married Laura (1882). Still digging.

Again, thanks for this John. I will follow up on Lane and Macdonald. Ann

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Thanks for this. Looks like he might be the right man, just need to find a link to Aston! Ann

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi John He's been on my list as a 'possible' for ages, just can't find the link to Aston. He could have been at Aston Barracks, but I think he's the wrong batallion of RWR. He's not on the 8th Batallion list of war dead. Ann

thank you. I had already noted my omission in acknowledging aston lad, and our posts crossed.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Sorry aston lad, I think you'd already suggested address for S J B Webb, and you are right. It's on his attestation papers, and confirms his mother. 1911 census widowed mother Emma and children, including Samuel, were still in Tipton. His attestation papers are 1915.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Interesting! Great work! If nothing else, this Samuel Tomalin could easily have been the one that gave the name to the church. I will definitely include, but will leave address as unknown in Aston.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Definitely our man. Soldiers in Great War file says he is resident Aston, so the final issue is what address to use. I've always used an address where I know the man has lived, so I'll just need to decide if to use the Catherine Street address. Great work everyone, thank you.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi Everyone Here's the list of names I haven't yet found, taking into account all of your responses and other work done since i posted this thread on 7 February. I've tried attaching it as a file, but the system doesn't appear to want to play ball, so here goes: Outstanding names Aston PC...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Yes, all a bit muddled isn't it! It is strange that the Badby Tomalin is the only one of the family born in Birmingham, so i am still wondering whether he was 'adopted' from another Tomalin in Aston. Frustrating not to find the link, but I am going to include him - someone out there might know...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi there. This is a different Leonard Charles - he's still living in the 1939 census.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

I think it is a possibility. Having done all my checks the only association with Aston I can find is his birth. As far as I can see his 'parents' John W and Clara never left Badby. It is possible he was born to a family member in Aston, and sent to live with them, but without getting his birth...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Having looked at this now, it definitely is the right family. His sister Nellie is on the Personal Effects record; she is with him in the 1901 census, and her marriage to Clement Bowles was in Aston. I have decided to include him, so thank you. But it probably won't be for a couple of weeks, as...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Thank you for this. It certainly is a possibility, and I'll do my usual digging, following up from what you've already done, to see. I'll let you know. Ann

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Dear Mike I am working with the Church to do a significant publicity piece on the Memorial. We are keen to write a number of accounts of the lives of some of the men on the Memorial, with the hope being we can collect more accounts to build a bank of them. Would you be interested in us doing one...

The names in the memorial book for the 8th Batallion RWR are, as far as I am aware, an official listing from the regiment.
