Finally got to follow this up. It is Wright Street, Bordesley. Now added to the listing.

Thank you, I will work my way through these and let you know how I get on. I am just doing an update at the moment on the Listing, of the ones found over the last few weeks, so I will complete that first before doing these. Ann

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Dear Brian It is always nice to hear from families, and thank you for the comprehensive information. I have used the Witton Lane address on the Memorial Listing (on AstonWW1Memorial.com), but feel inclined to change this for the 1912 address of 5Court Park Lane as I know he will definitively...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Thanks Phil. As another contibutor has indicated, the names we are researching are those missing from the 618 names on the Church Memorial. Unfortunately, non of these four are on the Memorial. However, I am keeping a separate list of those men I 'come across' that are not on the Memorial...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Another great piece of detective work, and given the similarities of intitials, particulalry as they are phonetically similaar, I think you have the man.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi there. Can I confirm this is George Price, died 1/7/16 RWR 1582? I have his mother as Jane Black (presumably he 2nd marriage name). Do you know who his father was? We are looking to write a number of pieces about some of the men on the Memorial. If you have further details I could write...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Good afternnon everyone. Sorry I haven't posted recently - I've been puppy-sitting for a week, and seemed never to find the time. I will catch up, but am away on holiday next week for 10 days, so there will be another lull. I doubt if I will be able to updtae the website itself until towards...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

I think you've found another one, thank you.:) I had looked at him superficially a good while ago, when I was less inclined to look at variations in initials. There isn't any other candidate though. I have located him in 1911 census in Nechells, so have an Aston address. I will include him.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

I have not connected them to the Church, but to Aston. Evidence they were born here, married here, place of baptism of children, lived in a 1911 census Aston registration district (as some way of defining Aston, and yes, that included Nechells, Deritend, Duddeston, Lozells etc. (not Hockley as...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

It's been of great help. Since 7 February when I put on the initial post, we have identified 19, and found the addresses of 2 more. Brilliant! :) :) I will do a separate post shortly of those where we haven't got an Aston address - given all of your sleuthing we're bound to find some! Ann

Just to stop others looking, I've found E King.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

There is also an Ernest Albert Tranter, Rifle Brigade 5960, died 9/10/16, very definitely Aston. I have been very purist, as the initials are E A not E T, so he hasn't made the listing as yet. I am keeping under review.

Thanks, but I'd already checked him out and he's not our man.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

This looks like a pretty clear link to Herbert then! :)

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Hi John I have tried finding out more about Harry Lane, but drawn a complete blank. The only mention of him I can find is the UK, Died in the Great War listing, which does confirm Birmingham. There is, however, a Herbert Lane, 17597, also born Birmingham. I can trace him to St George's area of...

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Just to confirm, Richard Richards enlisted in Essex Regiment in 1891, serving in India from Feb 1894-Dec 1901, and in South Africa from 1901-1902. Detailed pension records confirm his family. His wounding in SA was a slight hand wound.

    Aston Parish Church WW1 Memorial

Having had a further look, I think there is a good chance this is our man. Others have spotted that Richard junior is actually living Bk of 99 Aston Road in 1891. I also think he might have served in South Africa in 1901/02, which is why we can't find him in the 1901 census. 1901 some of the...
